Another question that has probably been hammered to death but can anyone advise on the best warranty options for a 2002 e46 smg which no longer has its original bmw warranty?

Cheers

Is warranty direct cheaper than BMW?

I have heard terrible things about warranty direct and would avoid them like the plague!

If I were in your position I would do this -

The BMW warranty on your car is circa £1k. Open up an ISA etc with this amount and leave it in there, if anything goes wrong with the car use it, if not you will get a nice bit of interest wink

I had an E46 M3 and an E46 CSL over a 3 year period, not once did I need to claim off the warranty and paid out over £3k in payments for the service. On a car of this age and as long as the mileage is relatively low I really wouldn't bother smile

This is what one of the service advisor suggested to me as an alternative to having the warranty. I've had my '02 M3 SMG for a little under a year and have used the warranty twice, once for a diff seal and once for a thermostat.

Mine was a 53 plate E46 M3 , 18k miles bought from a Main Dealer in 2005.
Car came with +- 16 months warranty (up to when it was 3 years old).

I didn't renew the warranty, owned the car a further 3 years without any issues and put 26k miles on the clock in that time.
I did have one issue with the convertible hood - BMW paid 75% of cost to fix as car had only been out of warranty 6 months. (So kudos to BMW !!!)

If i was in your position and it's a good car, low miler - i'd bank the cash as has been said previously.

Is there a car age and/or mileage limit BMW will only provide an extended warranty for?

I think 100k miles is the limit and possibly 10 years old. However the price increases dramatically at 60k miles.
