The thing I think is my fuel rail is really manky, rusty and flaking. Its a metal structure under the plenum and seems to attach to the top of the injectors which hints at fuel rail but I've never seen one before. If this is what I think it is;
1. can this be removed without excessive danger and specialist tools
2. can it be shot blasted and powder coated
I know that I would have to ensure there was no debris inside before refitting and block it off so no powder got inside but other than that is it possible?
May also get the injectors cleaned whilst they are exposed if I can find somewhere to do it.

Some engines (later/older ?)had a much nicer cast fuel rail . . . .
Fuel pressure valve is different, you'll need to change that also.

Hmmm mine definitely doesn't look like that! I'll post a picture tomorrow when I go get the car.
The thing I'm thinking of definitely looks cast as it has a mould seam running round the edge so maybe the cast version. It is held between the plenum and engine block and looks like a tiny manifold although it's not easy to see as the plenum gets in the way.
I forgot there would be a fuel valve somewhere, is that a 'take out and put back in' part or a 'buy a new one' part? I've never messed around with a fuel system before so little nervous!

Having loked again they are really quite different, the alloy one is a complete sandwich plate between the manifold and the plenum with the reg valve held on by two bolts horizontally.
The steel (rusty) fuel rail currently on my car is held on my I'm not quite sure ? the reg valve is held on by two bolts vertically.
possibly to fit the alloy unit you'd need the whole "top end" of an engine, inlet manifold and plenum could be different ?

As far as I can tell I need to depressurise the fuel rail which I imagine I can do by running the car without a fuel pump (fuse out). Then remove the plenum and unbolt the fuel rail and its attachments. I have found nappies are very good at collecting spills so a few of them around to catch any wayward fuel and hey presto, one removed fuel rail.
Finally managed to take some pictures of mine today;
As you can see it needs a paint. I was thinking today that it probably gets seriously hot so powder coating might not cope with the temperature. Has anyone had their rocker covers powder coated? Wouldn't have thought they would get too much hotter.
May have to dig out the temperature probe for my multimeter and find out.

I've got a spare cast fuel rail and associated pressure regulator taking up space in the garage. I've been meaning to get them to the tip so they're yours if you want them.... as long as you promise not to make any football jokes! 
If you want to be rid I would be glad to take it off your hands, save you a trip to the dump 
As for the football, after the Saints last performance I don't think I can make any jokes!
