Young mother allocated a council house, complains it's not very good.

For fk sake, so it needs a bit of work done on it, most properties do when you buy them, something the likes of this bint and her ilk will never understand.

What was she expecting? Wall to wall carpeting and a 60" plasma on the wall to complete her cheap / free house?

You might be right, but I'd expect the vendor to take his dogmuck with him...

Apparently the council gave her the house in December so in that time she's done nothing other than get her mug in the papers.

Oh, and she's been on the council house waiting list for 10 years. She's 28.

The house has no carpets, hot water or working heating and both front and back gardens are covered in rubbish.

There is also exposed wiring, piping and an exposed electrical fuse box

I'll give her working heating, and the fuse box and wiring being hidden due to kids

But she can ruddy well clean the gardens herself, and perhaps get a job and get the other issues fixed up herself smile

It looks like a dive but then Blackpool is a dive. She can always do a bit of cleaning herself. I imagine gas/ electricity just need reconnecting.

I had to laugh at this. My workmate just bought a house in a condition that needs alot of work including a full rewire. He has young children too. Funny thing is he didn't write to the papers about it, pays for it and even saw it as an opertunity.

Come on now, I don't think you can just say people buy houses in that condition so like it or lump it. People have a choice when buying and (in simple terms) they get a choice of smaller house in great condition or larger house in worse.... if they choose the latter then they do the work to upgrade and usually will reap profit over and above their outlay. Were the tenant to spend the money to upgrade the house she wouldn't however even see her money back let alone a profit, that would be for the landlord to benefit from. What she is or isn't entitled to is a different matter but I don't think you can compare her to a private buyer taking on a project.

A Housing Officer should have taken her to view the Property prior to her signing on the dotted line. If it was so bad, she shouldn't have accepted it.

The heating won't work because the Gas would have been disconnected as soon as the property became vacant and a full Electrical Inspection would have been carried out at the same time (every 10 years OR at change of Tenant).

I'd like to see more photos to be honest. It's the Housing Association's responsibility to have the property in a safe, clean state both inside and out, but carpets and decoration are down to the new tenant.

As for "dog muck and drug paraphernalia"...if that's even slightly accurate someone wants a good kick up the arse. If i get into a vacant property before anyone else to do the Electrical Inspection and find that sort of thing (i work for a H A ) then i simply make a phone call and leave the property until it is removed.

Whether or not she deserves the property is entirely unrelated to the condition it should be in before occupancy.
