Do you mean you don't want it to show up at all, or that you don't want it to show the contents of the message?
If it's the latter you can change it so it just says 'text message' in the settings. If it's the former, then I don't know of a way of stopping it showing at all.

There is a "Show Preview" option in the settings for Messages - not turned it off myself but I assume this will do it yes

Put your text tone to 'no alert' and check for texts when you've got some alone time.

If you really don't want your other half to see texts off your bit on the side, either turn your phone off or get a second pay as you go phone.

Yeah this....I changed mine so it now just says who it's from and 'Text Message'.

Yup. After one of my old best mates (female) signed off a text with 'I love you' (all completely platonic, but she's in her thirties and single, very attractive and a successful London lawyer, and known me longer than my girlfriend (>15 years)) and my girlfriend saw the iPhone and the end of the message, she went utterly ballistic hehe

Fiery redhead moment, turned up to 11. The 'show preview' got turned off immediately after that wink

Is there anyway to block someone from sending you text messages? Or to simply get text messages autodeleted from selected people?

If your phone is jailbroken, install "iblacklist".

School-boy error, that one cf. I'd have thought you'd have been all over that.

My friend caught me by surprise. Wasn't expecting it... However you're right, schoolboy error - looking at it anything other than completely naively and innocently, our friendship is suspicious as hell, she is unhappily single and looking, we were inseparable at college, and she shows up on the scene after 5 years... of course my other half was pissed off and wary as hell. There's nothing in it, but took a lot of explaining and it's still a touchy subject...

I no longer use an iPhone.

Yes there is an app for that, it is called "Blacklist"
it allows you to prevent any messages and calls that you select from being displayed
it can be password protected and you can change the icon to something that doesnt draw attention
