I have a wireless router at one end of my house. This drives a patch router (I think) which in turn drives a wired network. I am a moron when it comes to this stuff so words that a child of five can understand would be appreciated.

Now the wireless router basically covers about 1/5th of the house. What can I buy that gives me universal wifi coverage?

I bought one of these

but that doesn't seem to work. I get a red LED on the unit and nothing happens.

Is something like this the best option or should I buy something that plugs into the LAN that is wired around the house? It needs to be really simple plug and play stuff.

What about these?

Seems a bit pointless given the LAN.

If I bought a few of those would I have many networks? Or just one? Any set up required?

I think you just buy as many as you need, and they appear as one network.

I'm not entirely sure though as I've never bought one, but I have seen friends using them. I'll do some digging though.

Here we go:

No idea if the base has to be another Apple Airport Express or not.

Not wireless but we use the plug in type at home and they work really well. You can either buy enough to have them in every room you want, or just carry them round with the laptop to wherever you want to access the net.
