Im playing with the idea of changing my car,
Im a rally driver that lives in deepest darkest devon so im not interested in trying to fit 35" rims on a 106
insurance wise - around group 14 max so i can keep it to 1k
im currently driving a clio 1.8 16v williams replica
I love relatively rare cars i.e. no mk4 golfs etc
around 1.5kish to spent but can need a fair bit of work doing to it.
would be nice to have something as new as possible

I thought about a puma but I cant say I know much about them.

Was looking at the old 323 1.6 turbos but its a bit too old really.

:L ye, the lexus lights came on a clio i bought a few months back, same as the 17s. but the flocked dash and coilovers were all mine

We were having a conversation today about cheap cars for youngsters that are cool and different from the usual Saxo's etc.

Kit cars. Low weight + reasonable hp + affordable insurance = lots of fun.

Only for peeps that can drive i guess, but if you've got a bit of a Rally background, you'll be fine smile

thats a good point but i cant really jump in it and drive to the lakes which i need to be able to do, would be great to own one but its a full time job insuring the rally car and a road car.

maybe a list of decent cars would help, i must be missing soo many
323 turbo
106 rallye
205 gti
clio 16v
lancia delta 1.6
clio 172
talbot sunbeam
you can probably see what kind of things im after from that

Nissan Almera gti - old but quick

bora vw bora(golf) 2.3 v5 150bhp - newer but thirsty

mazda 323f v6 - old again but v6 and rare

fiat stillo 150 jtd

All around the 150 bhp mark.. That is all i can think off for your budget...

i had a Mazda v6 which are getting on a bit but the precursor tot he ford puma and v6 power in your budget and nice noise... but only 130 bhp...

thought about a mk2 golf gti but again a little old.
my insurance is currently £1100 with 190bhp
im very lucky that I live in the middle of nowhere so I dont have to worry about some chav nicking my wheels if I leave it for 10mins.

I have had a couple of GTI mark 2 very good cars and never rated to any other modern car. Maybe get a cheap one and save up..Another suggestion maybe a pug GTI 6..

I Citroen zsara vtr or vts.. i would think about why you want 150 bhp as a lighter car with less bhp will have better feel than a heavy car with 150. Also diesels are around this figure but small power bands.

if I was in your boots, get a good handling car over BHP..

ye I should have said that really, im not interested in 0-60 in 2 seconds but fall off at the first corner, Its alot more important how it handles but im used to the feeling of between 150bhp per ton+.
a 106 rallye would be perfect but there expensive for there age and there just a little too slow, I dont really want to go down the road of engine conversions and things either.

Maybe a Hyundai Coupe 2.0 SE? I liked mine. Great standard equipment, 141 bhp and good looks, plus only insurance group 10.

That looks good. Now find one in the price bracket?

Im not sure how insurance would be on a 2.0l prelude but you can pick them up very cheap.
Although it wont be all that quick as they are a bit heavy unless you have the VTEC engine, but I guess insurance costs will rule that out.

I was going to say "No way for £1500", but it appears you can get them for £1500 - albeit a little tatty.

I would have thought that, insurance permitting, it would have to be on the shortlist.

scratchchin Wasn't it in the top 3 of Evo's top hot hatches ever!?!?

ye i think there pricey insurance wise whereas the hyundai is just pricey, the williams would be nice but its too much on insurance, plus the stats seem to be better for the 16v.
