The Old question!

Hi

Well it's my time to ask the old question which shocks to have! (See previous post Leven service)

Now I am not a race driver (Even though I can and do!)I like my Cebie as more a GT car than a racer! So I don't want a real hard ride!

I like to keep my cars original so what shocks do I get!

So come on give me some ideas and advice (Cleanish please)

I was once told to get the best shocks you can afford, which I've always tried to stick by.

In order of preference and budget I'd go:

Gaz golds (£600)
Nitrons (£1000)
Ohlins (£2000)

Hmmm - Avos, Gaz, Protech, Nitrons, Ohlins, Intrax.....?

I would probably go Nitrons or possibly ProTech if I was you.

You can set a softish ride, use softish springs... and then you will have a ride you like me thinks.

Ohlins were on the press cars, if you like to keep it original then these at least have a link back to factory cars this way (this is how I justified it to myself ). Can be specced to your type of driving so aren't just for track day warriors - mine is far better down a bumpy road with these on than the old shocks, yet adjustable to stiffen up when needed. Lot of money but if you are keeping for a few years it hardly makes much of an impact over the longer term.

I have AVO shocks on mine (they were on it when I got it).

I changed the springs and fitted 9" 375's and 10" 350's on the advice of Jools in TrackCar.

They are absolutely perfect for the type of set-up you want.

I have no problems with the ride quality of the car on the absolutely ribbish roads over here.

I set the shocks at about 75% stiffness and it's soft enough to handle the bumps, etc but firm enough to allow me to drive it on when I want to.

The only down side is it is too soft for the track and I have spun several times on track days when I try to push it on.
