Just when you thought it couldn't get anymore boring! hehe

My beloved logitech dinovo wireless desktop has ceased working. In the mean time I've got a 50 quid logitech replacement, complete with rediculously loud keys, and a mouse I'm not especially fond of.

So, I need something nice before I destroy this mediocre stand-in.

I prefer straight keyboard (as in not wavey or split - sexual orientation isn't a problem). I don't do gaming or anything, it's purely for typing and browsing, media etc.
Wired isn't an option, and I don't mind what gadgetry it's got, more the better I suppose. I've only looked at logitech and microsoft, but there's nothing jumping out and saying 'buy me'. Only one that I thought looked ok was the logitech one with the backlit keys, that's a handy feature on my macbook.

One thing I loved about the dinovo is the softer touch keys compared to the big old type-writer-esque ones on this newer one. Mouse wise I prefer bigger and clunky unless it's an apple magic mouse (this machine is windows unfortunately).

Yes it's a rubbish topic about tedious peripherals, but I'm hoping someone might have something I've yet to stumble across that I wouldn't have seen otherwise.

Anyone got any suggestions?

IMO you can't beat the microsoft hardware. Say what you like about their software but their mouse and keyboards are fantastic.

Lifetime guarantee as well wink

Sell your soul! Go for the Microsoft jobbies! evil

In all seriousness, they aren't made by MS, just decent kit badged as such. Don't bother with the "Bells and Whistles" versions- the basic ones are good value. And, don't waste your time with wireless ones- there really is no stupider situation than sitting at your PC with a 'flat' mouse.

I'm not a hater of microsoft stuff, infact some of their more recent stuff I've bought like webcams etc have been superb. I just don't want awful clunky keys hehe I spend a lot of hours on Skype and bashing away at the keyboard at the same time, and it's not really a nice noise!

Wireless is essential though, the wired ones won't have long enough cables to reach from my desk to the puter, and I need to move a few feet away from the PC sometimes with said keyboard and mouse.

Cheers for the suggestions so far, any specific models worth looking at?

I've got the previous incarnation of this one http://www.cclonline.com/product-info.asp?product_...

It's nearly 3 years old and is just as quiet as the day i bought it.

That one looks like it has a slight curve to it but not as much as you'd notice, not like the "natural" ones that look like they've melted

I'd recommend you go to PC World (eugh) and see if they have any on display, see what they feel like, then go home and order one online smile

I just bought a lovely ali mac keyboard and mighty mouse for my PC. Works like a dream. I used sharpkeys to remap the media keys. So far really pleased with it. I use it with Windows 7 but see no reason why it wouldnt work with XP.

I have one of these at work,

I suffer badly from RSI and this solves a lot of problems.

Mouse is superb.

Keyboard is good, but you need to be able to touch type to use it properly.

Cheers folks, I hunted high and low for something a bit 'special' like the dinovo but couldn't really find anything. Ended up taking a punt on a microft desktop for 50 odd quid. It's not a split keyboard but it does have quite a 'wave' in the keyboard, it's taking some getting used to! I'm used to straight keys!

Still, it's a really nice keyboard and I can feel my wrists thanking me for it already...wait... no not like that! So quiet compared to the POS logitech too. I really used to like their stuff but it seems they're way behind now, keys take far too much depressing and they're way louder than they ought to be. Ergonomically this one knocks the logitech into a cocked hat. I think I'll replace all my keyboards with them, aside of the Mac ones which are far too sexy for their own good.

The mouse will take some getting used to too, I think I prefer my logitech one but I'll get used to that I guess.

Thanks for all your input folks.
