Subliminal ways involve asking her to hold a ruler and then holding her hand so the ruler's caught in the middle of your hands - it's nowhere near accurate but it gives you a rough idea at least.

Chances are the ring finger on her other hand is only one size different if that helps, as not many women wear rings on actual ring finger for size to compare

At an appropriate moment, ask her to stick her ring finger up your arse. Then when you get to jeweller get them to... And that should give you a fairly accurate measurement. (So I would guess)

Unless she is mentally locked in the Middle Ages she will not appreciate this. Read up on diamonds, and give her a proposition that includes her choice.

Not only does this method mean you get the ring sized properly, but saves you lashing out on a rock only for her to say no...

like others have said the ring finger on the other hand is about 1 size +/- to find this out I bought the wife a ring for that finger to have a rough idea, then I bought the wife a temporary engagement ring and the real diamond of same size, proposed then we went and had the diamond set in a ring custom of her design.

I know sounds hassle but in the end she had what she wanted and more of a personal experience and not just another off the shelf engagement ring.

A couple of my friends have done the same as us, and if you would like i know a Diamond Geezer! who trades at the London Diamond Bourse in Hatton Garden i would be more than happy to put you in touch with, its a great experience and he can cater to any budget and you will get a lot more fro you £ from him than you would from your high street jeweler.

What I did was rope one of her best girly friends in - girly friend liked this (and kept shtum) because she felt that she was involved. Anyhoo - they went shopping, and whilst out her friend asked to look at some rings (normal rings) and as girlies do, whilst she was trying some on, my other half couldnt help herself. The rest is expensive history.
