Hi there,

I've just taken delivery of a Q5 3.0TDi DSG and am planning on getting it chipped immediately - can anyone recommend an outfit in the South of England; all the way from London to Devon that have done a solid job on your top Audi oil burner, and that have a great reputation?

Looking for a well balanced blueprint, with the torque being more important than the bhp, preferably a user removable unit.

Many thanks for any advice.

Cheers, Rod

Dr G

QST are the UK agent for MTM who do plug-in options. They are expensive mind.

Revotechnik is a software upgrade with an optional switch but their Q5 software for the 3.0 isn't out yet. I have driven 3.0 TDIs with Revo's software on and it genuinely makes the car a nicer drive. It doesn't make the car laggy or abrupt, it massages the standard build of torque noticable but rather than dying off at 3,500 or so where the standard cars starts to flag it gives you another 500-750 RPM of useful shove.

The car feels like it spends more time accelerating and less time deciding what gear it wants to be in.

the superchips bluefin system is good. you can load and remove it at will, also swap program from one car to another when you get rid off the Q5

Also very nic epoeple to deal with.

I am thinking of having my 3.0tdi A6 chipped now it's out of warranty. Does the drivetrain handle the extra power ok? Mine is a 2007 tiptronic quattro. I would like more power but don't want to be storing up future problems with gearboxes, difs etc

Thanks for the info DrG and Simond001 - that was really helpful.

Am currently looking at http://www.bhpplus.co.uk/ - although no one seems to have specific blueprints for the Q5 yet, just generic 3L V6 TDi blueprints. I am wondering whether an off the shelf plug in box would be as strong & reliable as a purpose built blueprint done on a rolling road?

I am not a tuning specialist, BUT..

I would advise going a company that actually remap the car, not a solution that fools the car into thinking it is running differently. If you speak to a proper tuner they will explain why!

A plug in solution is not the same as a remap. Don't scrimp on this to save a few quid, it's your new car!

It's worth checking on whether your engine can be done. I have an A5 3.0TDI on a 58 plate, and had a remap arranged with Simon from E-Maps last week, but when he got here he was unable to gain access to the CPU to undertake the mapping. Apparently when i'd had a service a couple of months ago the software had been updated by Audi and locked out access. The mappers are working on a route back in, but there's no telling if and when this can be done.

Apparently the remapping industry is a 'cat and mouse' game between the manufactureres and mappers, with every time a route in is found, it is subsequently blocked.

in view of this, I suspect that with your car being new it will have the most up to date CPU software and not allow access.

Though if I'm wrong, and you can get it done please let me know, as I was really looking forward to the extra 45bhp I thought I was going to get last week!

What do the manufactuerers have to lose? All they get is a way to get out of Warranty claims?

Thanks MHB, that's very useful info! I'm getting the feeling that you're right on the Q5 being locked out still. None of the tuners I have looked into are offering a tuning package specifically tailored to the Q5 - a few replied with lines like 'it works on the Q7 3.0TDi, so we're sure if you bolt it on to the Q5 that it'll work fine...' - That made me shudder!

I think i'll sit this one out for a while until there is something designed for the actual car, I would love to know more about why the plug in boxes are deemed a poor replacement for an actual engine chip reprogram. I understand that all they do is trick the ECU into telling the engine that it's being underfueld, so more fuel is pumped in and more power generated. How would that differ whether or not it's a plug in box or the reprogrammed Audi chip?

Either way, i'll sit tight for now. Thanks for the guidance.

Cheers, Rod

Old thread so apologies for revisiting this.

I take delivery of a 2010 Q5 3.0 tdi which I’ve secured cheaply as it’s been remapped. I am waiting further info on who did the map and why, but in the meantime I am interested in everyone’s experience of their remap on this car.

I plan to check the map with a tuner. Are Revo still the guys to go for or is someone else better?

How has the map affected the drive and reliability?

The car also has a full Audi service history with the last one completed last month so I am a little surprised they haven’t taken this map off.

I am based in the south east. Thanks in advance for your comments
