Knackered electrolytic caps in the PSU or motherboard can cause this symptom. Your PC is old enough to have been affected by this problem
OTOH it might be a simple BIOS battery problem, these are often a lithium coin cell. Crack open the PC and check for any leaking/bulging caps as shown in the wiki article, and if it all looks good try a new BIOS battery.
