bought the wife a focus ST (57) plate, surprisingly good car, plenty of get up and go and a real good ride ... only citicism so far is the fuel consumption, its worse than my m3 was !

Will get some photos up once I get chance to clean it

They do like a drink when in less than ideal conditions such as the urban crawl or a particularly punishing driving style. However, at the same time, if you have a look around at other hatches with > 4 cyl engines, they're all in a similar vein consumption wise. Big, lazy low tech engines and surprising weight, I suppose.

Does anyone know how these compare to the Mondeo ST220, fuel consumption wise?

Nice one mate. Welcome to the ST world. Have you joined the Focus STOC yet?? Its a wealth of knowledge on the ST. You can even get a discount on insurance just by being a member.

I get about 25mpg around town. On a decent motorway run I see around 30-32mpg. Add another 1-2mpg for Super Unleaded...

Most of the stuff I do are small A-roads and B-roads and it rarely dips below 25mpg.

Looks well.

Wonder what the hell Ford were thinking putting Goodyear Excellence on a 200+hp car? They're crap on the diesel Focii and Mondeos at work. It's safe to say the EfficientGrip are a HUGE upgrade over the Excellence.

Sorry i should also add mine has be tuned and currently pushes out 280bhp and 320 lb/ft torque. biggrin So i imagine that isnt doing my mpg much good but still not too bad considering the power output.

ford put continental sportcontact2 on focus st's from new iirc, mine were anyway.
chances are the previous owners chose the excellence, st's eat tyres so thats probably its 2nd/3rd/4th set! pmslbiggrin

I hate people who buy a nice car, then come to consumerables cut corners. OP get a set of Vredestien Sessanta Ultracs on them. I could not believe the cornering grip versus the standard OEM Sport Contis so much better. £80ish a tyre too that makes them a bargain.

Tyres seem fine, wife not reported any issues anyway whilst doing the school run, will prob replace with Sport contacts or similar when these go - I always use Motosport wheels at Leeds for tyres they are usually cheap as chips and are used to not sctratching alloys etc

I must admit i'm pretty tempted by one. I think when the time comes to sell the 220, i will have to look at these.

Oddly enough, I've seen a small increase in my mpg when running it with the Dreamscience DSCI map (which is good for around 270bhp) compared with stock!

I've had my ST for two years now and covered 20,000 miles in it. It hasn't put a foot wrong. I'm starting to get itchy feet and a yen for something different, but its hard to justify the £8-10K cost to change to put myself in anything that would feel like a "step up" when the ST is quite capable of ticking all the boxes as (semi-) sensible family car, comfortable cruiser and fun for a bit of hooning when the opportunity arises....

Yes, it's a bit thirsty, but you buy the car knowing that you're going to be lucky to get more than 25mpg on an urban commute...
