Hi,

been thinking an a Lotus S1, not sure what model to buy, would just be a fast road car, maybe a track day, like to get the spanners out once in a while too!

So can anyone give me any info on what models are best know the Rover K Series engines aint the best and some have fitted Honda Engines??, but other than that, not much else.

Thanks in advance

You will have to be quick, they are not making them any more and they are disappearing abroad at a rather alarming rate as our EC cousins realise what a fantastic car they are smile

each has their own favourite, id suggest test driving the different variants and decide what you like best. The S160 is regarded by many as the best Elise ever made, but its maybe a little too raw for some.

I'm afraid all S1 Elises are a pretty raw experience. If you want refinement, best look elsewhere.

Check the thread on 'what's the best Elise' a bit further down, some interesting opinions on there.

Ain't nothing wrong with the K-series.

So long as you're not after building one to over 200bhp (what kind of idiot would do something like that?!?!?) then they're fine.

For your needs, have a look at the S1 111S. Probably the most comfort-oriented variant of the breed.

The buyer's guide thread at the top has lots of useful websites.

elises.co.uk is a good starting point for learning about the cars, as is:

By the way, on roadgoing suspension they're actually very comfortable cars despite all the noise they make. For the motorway, wearing some earplugs makes a big difference to comfort.

I agree with Brad - on motorways, particularly with the roof on, mine's a complete pain.
On a sunny day on a favourite road it's impossible to resist !! I've yet to drive any car I'd swap her for.
I looked at quite a few variants and ended up with a 135 which, according to the press at the time, seemed to offer the best compromise for fast road / occasional track use. I haven't regretted my choice at all since I bought her 4+ years ago.
My recommendation would be to look at as many as you can and you'll get to know what you like and what you don't. One car will suddenly appear that is just right for you - snap it up !!!

My S1 makes my S2 111R feel refined, if you are after comfort, as somebody has already said, look elsewhere. I can do long trips down to the south of France in the S2 no probs, but the S1 is a bit of a killer on long trips.
