Are dogs allowed on buses?

I ask because I saw some drunk bloke getting on a bus with a bloody pit bull today. It wasn't even on a lead but the driver still let it on.

If so, lovely misunderstood dogs, but illegal. You should have done your civic duty and called the local constabulary.

If, on the other hand, it was another breed of dog, then they are certainly allowed on buses.

Yes as long as deemed by the driver to be well behaved, I think owners have to pay half fare.

Hmm.. I think it was a pitbull although I don't really know much about dogs. It was a much darker colour than the one in your photo and it looked smaller but bigger built.

I've seen dogs on busses before, so yes. Although as said the driver can say no if he considers it vicious.

Why is it that everyone that sees a bull terrier type of dog automatically thinks Pitbull??

In any case pitbulls naturally have dog agression not human agression, and even this dog agression is very easy to keep on top of with adequate socialising.

Pitbulls are used by two types of scummers. Drug dealers - who remove their vocals chords and train them to attack the poh-lice - and dog fighters - who treat their dogs like kings (other than the bait/old dogs of course). Pitbulls are specifically picked by dog fighters due to their aforementioned dog aggression, natural physiology and very, very high pain thresholds.

It is rare you'll actually meet any of these dogs though as obviously these groups like to keep a low profile. I'd be much more worried by ANY dog that falls in to the hands of the inexperienced/unbothered/stataus symbol seekers.

Also, they have to pay on the day, not in advance.

Dogs can't book up.

As far as I know, there is no law relating to dogs being on a lead, only that a dog should not be ‘dangerously out of control'.

ETA: scratch that, it does mention it in the Road Traffic act. I've never known a dog owner to be prosecuted under it though.

why should he have had to have it on a lead if it was well behaved? Given that the dog is well trained and behaved in all situations, then why the need to have it attached to his arm with a peice of string?

Me too - another vote for yes.

It is up to the specific operators whether you must pay to bring you dog onto their busses.

I didnt know pitbulls were illegal, is that American or British? why are they? if they are illegal, do they still exist?

Dogs on buses? Yup. There used to be (and may still be) a busker/whatever in Lowestoft who takes himself and dog into town from one of the outlying villages.

Wonder what the call was? "Spare us some bus change to get home mate"

Yup they are illegal. Few years ago there was a spate of dog attacks involving the Pitbull and a few others with a feirce reputation. Media made a big thing of it and before you know the house of commons in a knee jerk reaction type thing drew up the dangerous dogs act. Personally there is nothing wrong with these dogs if the owner is responsible and has enougbh control over the dog.

I knew of a rottweiler that was owned by an middle aged woman. She used to feed it before she ate and pandered to its everyneed. A few years down the line the dog knows its, well, top dog, and refuses to let the owner into her house - Dog thought it was his house now - it took a few people to get it out and had to be knocked out. Mate of mine took it and worked with it on a daily basis and its now back to being a fantastic pet. just goes to show eh.
