Griff New Wheels with pictures

Following on from my post of a few weeks ago I finally took the plunge and ordered the new wheels, what do you think?

Whilst the wheels were going on I went for the full wallet opening experience by getting Nitrons fitted, sleeved sports exhaust, leven kickplates, hand brake cover, fan overide switch and new fuel pipes fitted. A big thanks to Martin, Mark and Graham at the TVR centre for the excellent service in sorting all this out for me, as per my last visit there it was a pleasure dealing with them (apart from the bill of course) lots of communication and plenty of opportunity to have a look at what was going on. Thouroughly recommended!

Had a great drive into work this morning the handling has been very much improved with the Nitrons, the exhaust sounded ace through the Hatfield Tunnel and the Sun was finally out, roll on Summer!

I think they look quite nice. I wouldn't personally choose them but then if we all did the same, it would be very dull.

not sure TBO, are they 16 rear 15 front? if so, I think thats the problem, when black centered the centre looks to small compared to the polished rim part, think the ALL silver could have carried it off better or 17s & 16s.

saying that, they might look much better in the flesh

Yes they are Lenso BSX wheels 16 inch front and rear, I didn't want to go any bigger than this and Lenso at present don't make these wheels in a larger size.

As ever each to their own, I like them and they do look much nicer in the flesh than the pics, I wanted an OZ style wheel and since the days of owning my old 280i and 390se have always been a sucker for a coloured wheel centre and polished rim. Must be showing my age, off to listen to the Human League....

dont get me wrong, they are waaaay better than std, get what your saying re the original cross spokes, love em, I love the e30 M3 stylee black centres to, now you mention it the fronts look right, its the rears that need to be 17s but as you say Lenso dont do them yet

i'm nit picking the only alternative at the moment for that look are the custom compomotives, but at about £300 per wheel the last time I looked, not really doable.

Pvapour, Cheers for the post and I understand what you are saying. My first choice were the Compromotive CXN wheel, however they are if I remember correctly over £400 per corner plus tyres in a 17 inch size, the Lenso's were £499 for the 4 and £160 for the front Toyo Proxes. Mrs T5GRF didn't see the value in the extra £1300 expenditure for the CXN's (without tyres)....

I've never heardof Lenso; are they reputable? I'd love a set of the original OZ Racing cross spokes but finding them in great condition is difficult and the fasteners are almost unobtainable. Those Lenso's look very close; if they were lighter than the Estorils and good quality then I'd consider them . . . . though with a silver centre.

I mean this in a really nice way, but I think the big problem is T5 GRF is not David Bailey. With such bright bodywork and a fairly overcast day it is very difficult to take a picture that shows the detail in the wheels. I reckon they probably do look a lot better in the flesh.

The wheels are lighter than the Estorils I weighed them before they went on I can't remember the weight difference but I think I jotted it down at home somewhere.

The quality of the wheels are pretty good considering what they cost, in fact it was a helpful guy that I spoke to at Compromotive that put me on to them in the first place whilst I was enquiring about CXN's as Compromotive don't make the CXN in a 16 inch size anymore.

I have slapped 4 coats of wheel wax on them inside and out, and with regular cleaning I think the finish will last a long time, it won't be on the road during the winter months anyway. Bartlash on here has Lenso's fitted to the front of his Griff and has also been pleased with them.

Sonic, yes you are right mate my camera technique leaves a lot to be desired they do look much nicer in the flesh.

As per my previous post I wanted an OZ style wheel at sensible money, and wanted to increase the front wheel size to 16 inch to help with tyre choice. I have no doubt that Compromotive or Image wheels are far superior but then they ought to be for the price difference.

If anyone wants a closer look in the Herts area I will try to get to the meet on Sunday assuming the weather is good.

Thanks for the link T5. I notice 'Psuedo Split-Rim Effect'; that'll be why they're relatively cheap then.

Yes they are one piece wheels, proper 2 or 3 piece spilt rims are very expensive and prone to corrosion issues in my experience, they will effectively become yet another "service item" on the car overtime...
