Bit of a trip out today as I had a day off from work and kids! Seeing as I live near Oswestry, North Wales is luckily on my doorstep so off I went, wallet , drink and a road map on the passenger seat!

Oswestry to Llanrhaeadr ym mochnant then onto B4391 over to Bala.

Left Bala on A4212 for 1/2m then took minor road to Arenig skirting the southern side of the lake, straight over A4212 onto B4391.

Turned right onto B4407 up to A5 and on to Betws y coed.
Capel curig onto A4086 then A498 to Beddgelert.
A4085 south to Garreg left onto B4410 then met up with A487.

Left onto A496 then right onto B4391(my favourite of the day) through Llan Ffestiniog and back east to the Bala road.
Headed east then took the B4501 over towards the A5 to get on the EVO triangle.Past Llyn Brenig then right for Denbigh on the B4501.

Into Denbigh, headed for Ruthin then A525 onto A542 Horseshoe Pass, through Llangollen then A5 home! Took about five hours door to door with stops for food etc. Sorry to go on but I had a good day!

Lots of snow still up on the tops and you could'nt see the top of Snowdon for cloud. Roads were quiet when you got away from the A5 that's the good thing about going up there on a week day, I love it!

Yeah North Wales on a quiet weekday afternoon heading back down towards the Trawsfynydd to Bala road. Correct it's a Suzuki Ignis Sport! A very good car for what it is and takes a good thrashing on roads like this. I got it v cheap via my father in law who had my old banger for scrappage against a zero tax band SEAT ibiza 3 cylinder diesel. I think I got the best deal. If anyone sees a red ignis with faded-to-pink-ish mirrors up there give us a wave! Off to the Elan Valley area next time I think, any recommendations over that way or just take a map and explore?

Great photos. I was also there, had so much fun. It was my first time in North Wales.

Have a question -

At the triangle there are several "camera" signs but i havent seen a single camera ???

same applies to some of the other roads in the area.

Are they hidden ? if so , god help me ! smile

We did a 3-day tour the other weekend, doing North Wales/Snowdonia on Friday, Mid-Wales on Saturday and planning to to South Wales on Sunday.

The plan changed due to the wet weather on Saturday and some of the party missing the Friday tour, so we did a combo mid & north Wales run on Sunday instead a the weather was much better (and there wasn't a marathon on around the Elan Valley).

Didn't stop much as we had a tight schedule, but did get some nice shots of the Elan Valley...

The rest are available here.

Allegedly the local police have resorted to hiding them in a horsebox before now (is this an urban myth? who knows ?)

The police target motorcyclists more than car drivers (but if you happen to get caught in the net they're not fussy whether you have two wheels or four) !
They've been known to use helicoptors in the area previously.
The A5 is a particular favorite of theirs. It's fast straight and provides easy pickings for them.
The signs are up there for a reason, that being to warn you cameras MAY be in use.
I've seen police cars around there on several occasions (fortunately when I've been behaving . . . )

The horse box thing is true, sure there was an article on the BBC website about it. I've only blasted round EVO triangle once but was greeted by a mobile cop on one of the straights. Luckily they missed me, much to their disapointment as they jumped out the trees and shook their fists in the air. That was a tense few weeks until the FPN never arrived biggrin

ETA: I've driven the A5 a few times without branching off onto the triange, and on most days have found mobile vans along there.
