Anyone got any recommendations for a cycle computer? I'd like wireless, but is there anything to look out for? Good/bad brands etc... Or are they all much of a muchness?

I've also considered using my iPhone, as there look to be some good apps that also have the benefit of recording/mapping my rides. The only down side being that I can't find a decent mount.

Has anyone used the iPhone for this, and if so, any ideas on a good mount, and are there any apps that have been tried and tested?

I've had a Garmin Edge 205 for a few years and would recommend them. These can be picked up very cheaply now. The newer models are far flasher, but the 205 does everything i need/want it to.

I love my shimano flightdeck on my STI shifters with remote sensor that I've had since 2005.

In addition to the gear indication front & rear cog that I haven't seen anywhere else (not that I've looked recently), you get a virtual cadence based on road speed and gear ratios, ok it doesn't quite work when your freewheeling but it is great at helping you train to certain parameters. Also has controls built into the shifters so your not pressing buttons and releasing the handle bars.

Not sure on it's data logging capabilities as I'm not that serious a rider, but for what I want it's ideal. No wires all over the bike either.

What do you want/need it to do?
-Do you need just overall distance travelled?
-Do you need/want full GPS detail
-How about GPS routing?
-Do you need a heart rate monitor?
-Do you need cadence?

Unless you need GPS, just get the cheapest Cateye one with wireless and cadence.

Keep your iPhone in a sandwich bag in a pocket if you're likely to get lost!

I like the Cateye Strada ones - the whole top is the button, far less fiddly.

That said, if you can stretch to a GPS one (look at the Garmin Forerunner as well as the Edge) then you get a whole load more functionality. Even the basic ones can take routes to follow and I find that a godsend for road rides - plan on PC (or download someone else's), put on the device then follow the black line on the screen, no faffing about with a map.

Even in basic recording mode it's fun to see exactly where you went, along with speed/elevation data.

+1.
I have two of the wireless ones. Dead easy to operate, but mine rattle like crazy in the mounts which is really annoying!

Thanks for the advice Guys and Girls.

I went out and got a Cateye Strada Wireless today - Nice and small, easy to fit and even easier to set up and use.....
