360CS Specification Requirements Advice Please
Discussion
Viewing a few CS's shortly and need to know what specifications to look out for. Was their a option list for the 360 CS and if so what are essentials should be haved?
Is mileage a real problem if its in the twenty on a 03/04?
Any advice would be mostkind please....
Also considering a Lambo garllado as that has been a dream to own one two, but unsure model year to go for and if they are as good as the CS in terms of grin factor (noise, handling etc.)
Go upto 80K to spend comfortable... I know long term the CS will hold its value over the Lambo due to the rarity of them.
The wife thinks the 430 or a Maserati are the ones to have for that money over both of the above.
If you enjoy driving and driving hard get the CS, the lambo doesn’t even come close for a true driving experience.
Options from memory:
fire extinguisher
stereo
roll bar
Harnesses
leather seats
leather door sill entry plates
leather in various other places
stripe
caliper colour
plastic windows
avoid the orange cars and if you want red get Rosso Corsa, best colours are yellow or black IMO but only 2 yellows in the uk and not many blacks.
the main point to check is the calipers, most will have seized pistons if they haven't been dried off properly after washing or bad weather.
The strad is streets ahead of the F430 for the ferrari experience but to fully appreciate the specialness of the strad you need to use it properly.
last of all is the noise, arguably the best sound a standard ferrari has ever made. The new larger V8 engines can’t produce the same unique sound.

yes that’s the 'orange'
its fine really but most of the 119 strad's were this colour so its the most common. at night it looks orange but in the day it does look fantastic.
check the brakes as i said and also check the discs. if the surface is rough and not smooth like glass then the disc's are finished. you can still use them but they will eat pads really quickly and generate brake dust.
that car has been for sale for a while but still maybe good and perhaps the colour is the reason.
mileage is not an issue, in fact the more the miles the better the car will be. the low mileage examples will have a catalogue of problems surfacing. a car that has been used and serviced regularly will be the best option.
I'm maybe the best person to respond to this as I have had a black 04-04 360CS since new and have just added a 08-08 gallardo coupe (E-gear) to my ownership last week.
The Lambo is like a big sharp knife where the Ferrari is like a scalpel. Both do the same job in a diferent way.
Given a last tank of petrol id fill and take the Ferrari on the basis that the handling is exceptional in terms of its ability to change direction and the braking system is a real leap ahaed of plenty cars with the same 0-60.
I think the Lambo is more of a show off and I do like the way it looks and delivers its power but Im glad I never sold the CS.
Just my opinion but I would avoid the lexan and only choose the harness if you really need them as you. They dont lose much so if you dont like it you might even make money!

Mark thanks for the advice just one other question do you known the blue one thats on pistonheads?
I dont use club scuderia but I have an idea that the blue car may have belonged to a businessman from the Tayside area. It was in Graypaul Edinburgh when I collected mine being serviced and I think it was used as a daily driver by him hence the higher miles. This could of course be complete rubbish. My CS has improved with miles and they chip on the sills and bumper very easily so paint is not a concern.

i also have a black cs (3 years now and counting) and just recently purchased a egear Superleggera! we must have very similar car tastes!! LOLThe Lambo is like a big sharp knife where the Ferrari is like a scalpel. Both do the same job in a diferent way.

I didnt have the pennies for a fancy gallardo, fair play to you. You didnt say which one you liked the best tho....
i have on another thread. nothing i have ever driven gets even close to the strad, hence why i have owned it for 3 years. i have 4 good friends with strads and all have been owned for around 3 years and none of us want to sell.
The new Ferrari’s are too heavy and too commercial, for example the scud seemed to be more of a marketing strategy rather than a Ferrari developed out of passion.
360cs's will be fetching over 200k in 10 years.

What about the half red/half black interior, versus full black?
I was tempted at spec time to choose leather as most CS options were 'no cost' choices rather than extras as I thought free leather over cloth was a good thing but I much prefer the cloth to leather as its good and another thing that sets it apart from the normal 360. I have red and black in mine.I was too grippy to pay 3k for the stripe too.
dont forget to check for milky (white staining to carbon in engine bay) it can be a right pain to remove and spoils the look in the engine (lumpy to replace as well, think a airbox is 3k??)
make sure it has the right type of tyres for the car
rear diffuser is in one piece and not loose flappy about 1200 per side to replace that

Well I've never driven a CS but I considered one (ended up going for a 430) and drive a Gallardo so should be able to help here. Is mileage a real problem if its in the twenty on a 03/04?

Firstly, how often are you planning on using the car because that will play a big part in which one you chose. When I was looking at CS's I planned to use it everyday and the general consensus was not to. I was told they were too loud and uncomfortable etc to use everyday. Also, they can be a handful in the wet due to the tyres they have on them. Even the 430's back end can step out easily when it's wet so I can imagine what the CS is like. The CS’s noise is far better though.
The Gallardo is a far prettier car (I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder but in my opinion it is). The boot in the Gallardo is just useless, honesty if you want to get any more than a small bag you're going to struggle. Whereas the 430 (360 CS is very similar) has a far bigger and more useable boot. Also the 430 has more room behind the seats than the Gallardo.
As for running costs, petrol and road tax they are the same, but I believe servicing on the Lambo is a bit more although I'm not 100% sure. The Gallardo has 4 wheel drive which means it is a bit more forgiving if you over step the mark. The 430 however is the better driver's car. The steering has more feel and feedback, but if the tyres and cold or it's wet the back end can step out, whereas the Lambo doesn't so easily. The CS will probably hold it's value better, but who cares go for whichever one gives you "that feeling". I've always said and I know it's clichéd but buy with your heart. At the end of the day both these cars are brilliant so you need to think which one really excites you when you think of owning one. I have a 355 and even though I've owned and driven faster and better cars, the 355 is my favourite. Why? I'm not really sure all I know is that I love the 355 more than I love any of the others. And that is what you should feel.
Go drive both and see what you think. One of them will jump out at you. Make sure to keep us posted.

this can be solved without the need to replace, its the only the lacquer that turns milky. you can remove this with some wet&dry then apply new lacquer. granted it takes a good few hours to rub them down but the result is very satisfying.make sure it has the right type of tyres for the car
