Want to resurface my tired tarmac/concrete driveway with appropriate gravel surface, but I have no idea how much this is likely to cost.

The drive is approximately 40 meters long (with a right angle 3/4 of the way along) by 3 meters wide.

There are 3 manhole covers along the route which give access to sewer.

I think the job will include lifting and removal of old surface, plus all materials and edgings required.

Any ideas of how much I should budget - gratefully received!

how about digging up and just laying gravel, great for making the house breakers think twice because of the noise, very difficult creeping up a gravel drive in the dark without occupants hearing

If the edgings and sub base are good why not just have your existing drive planed and topped off again?

Gravel drives are a pain in the arse in my opinion.

on what bases are they a pain in the a*se, all you ahve to do is spray them once a year with weed killer, they are easy to tart up with a couple ton of fresh gravel every few years, they dont suffer with movement or get lifted by roots etxc etc, where is the pain !!

just to say ours will be a base of some tarmac kinda stuff with some gravely st ontop where it can go..

problem being that the bottom of my drive is seriously steep (there will be a thread soon asking people if i can get up it in the sports car i intend to buy)

or try to sneak in late from the pub hehe

It's just a personal thing for me, don't like walking on them, treading the stones in the house. The weeds, the way they spread and form hollows and ruts.
