Beware of receiving an email like this :--
From: "HM Revenue & Customs" <securemail@hmrc.gov.uk>
Tax Refund Notification
After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activity, we have determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of 988.50 GBP. Please submit the tax refund request and allow us 2-3 days in order to process it.
Click Here to submit your tax refund request
Note : A refund can be delayed a variety of reasons, for example submitting invalid records or applying after deadline.
Best Regards
HM Revenue & Customs
When you click on the word "Here" it takes you to the logos of banks, when you click on your bank, the log in page is exactly as it would be if you were on a secure site, but the HTTPS is missing the S.
I called the revenue, they are aware of the scam, and advised me to pass it onto them on
phishing@hmrc.gov.uk
The email was received this morning.

You've really got to be a Darwin candidate to believe anything like that that comes in on your email.
Agree but it catches a lot of people out. Discussing this at work today, amazing how many didnt know about the HTTPS. Lets face it, how many get caught out with "Oh you have won the Canadian lottery, send £100 to process it", doesn't even enter their little grey cells they didnt buy a ticket in the first place.crmcatee said:
Ever think how the HMRC got your email address ? No - we'll since they've sent it on to them - they've got it now.
Didn't quite get you last bit, its not HMRC who had my email address, its the scammers. The fact that the real HMRC has it now, no worries at all.

Unless your tax return has an e-mail address on?Ever think how the HMRC got your email address ? No - we'll since they've sent it on to them - they've got it now.
You'd be amazed at what people fall for. Half of them are so blasé because they think scams only catch idiots and forget that the HMRC don't issue tax refunds by e-mail

Too right they give overpaid tax back - and give them hell if they seem to be hanging on to any overpaid tax inordinately long.
