Reading some previous threads on DOSBox etc, I decided to load up my Settlers 2 Gold. Still love it, and along with TTDX (Or OpenTTD now) I play them regularly.

Looking on the internet, there now appears to be a Settlers 6 and a Settlers 7 now in the making! Has anyone experienced these newer games? Are they any good? I fancy getting a copy of the newer titles if the nice shiny graphics are matched by the old gameplay

Yeah, I recently saw Settlers 7 in the pre-order charts which reminded me of the good times on the earlier episodes. They were great games, will definitely check out 7 - out in 10 days or so.

10 days? Didnt realise it was that soon - scarily quite near after me thinking I need a new version.... roll on the next 10 days!

Never heard of this, but it appeals to me. I liked Populous and Sim City back in the day and manipulating my own peons.

I bought S6 not so long ago. It's OK for less than a tenner, and will keep you entertained for a few weeks but I was soon playing S3Gold again.

Without wanting to sound like a total nerd with a chip on his shoulder, anything from UbiSoft should be avoided until they remove that terrible DRM setup.

It requires you to be permenantly connected to the internet in order to play games, even single player. No "offline mode" like Steam. Internet goes down? Tough. Ubi's authentication servers crash? Tough titty. No gaming for you!

Utterly rediculous. Even EA have implimented this in C&C4, and one of their own employees ranted on Twitter about how crap it was as his internet was up and down like a yo-yo and it kept kicking him out of the game.

Is Settlers3 the one to get then? I enjoy 2 a lot, but the 'newer' graphics of 3 look appealing.
