Hi all,

I'm doing a project for uni at the moment which involves making a documentary-esque programme.

I'm looking to use iMovie as a movie editing suite, as it's all I have and I'm not really wishing to buy another suite for the sake of one project.

However, the camera I'm using to record uses a .MOD file format. My Mac doesn't read these and I've been snooping online looking for what to do.

Obviously, there's recommended file converters, which change the .MOD files to MPEG-2 files. The one I have is MPEG Streamclip. I need to purchase some sort of add-on to Quicktime to see these clips though. My question is - once the files are converted to MPEGs can I play these and edit them in iMovie?

Thanks,

Iain

Before you start messing with the video files, I'd try importing some video directly into iMovie from the camera.

This tutorial tells you how to do it:

A major drawback on the mac I have recently learnt, when it comes to video it is absolute ste. I have spent the last few days trying to get a bit of software that will play my High def video files, pain in the bloody arse.

C'mon guys, by know I thought everyone would know that the answers to any question about video formats is VLC or Handbrake. Both can transcode and VLC plays back damn near everything.

VLC transcodes?
yes I have 1.0.3 on Snow Leopard here : File -> Streaming/Exporting Wizard gives a transcode option.

I would like to formally offer my resignation from PH - my spelling of "now" as "know" was completely unacceptable.

I believe the loaded revolver is in its usual place on the end table in the billiard room ?

[ET correct the error in the apology for the error. BANG!]

Two minutes too late Blue - he's dead now!
Or else he was just faking it, and shot into the air.

So, peter101.. What format is your camera recording in?
(I imagine it will be some proprietary format)
