roof split help needed

Hi guys I know there has been a thread recently about splitting the roof on a griff so appologies for the repetition here.
Anyway here goes, I have just managed to get a second hand roof from the bay for a £175, I want to have a go at splitting it myself and making a reasonable job. Its mainly for the trip to Le Mans and trips out where I need more space in the boot. so to the people that have already done this any info on how you did it what you used, where you got the material to recover if it was required and how the joint was made and waterproofed.

With regards splitting the roof DIY there are a number of people who have achieved this. Ian Barreti has written an article which is viewable on http://www.thegriffithpages.com/ Unfortunatley this site is down for maintainence at present.
Ian being the gentleman that he is kindly emailed me pics and pointers from his DIY roof split. I am sure if you PM him he would be more than happy to discuss the job with you.

After seeing pictures of Ian's (Griff Boy) roof [now owned by Sonic] which was created professionally by Surface & Design and trimmed in leather to match the the interior by DC Trim I decided to save up and go the professional route.
I take my hat off to people like Ian Barreti who have completed the work themselves but I know for a fact if I had a go myself then disaster would follow.

Spoke with Surface & Design yesterday to find out whats involved, they are very busy at the moment so the earliest they could do a roof split for me would be in about 2 months time, secondly they would need the car there for aprox a week. Price quoted is £558 inc VAT to split and retrim mine.
When you also take into account travelling either 2 cars both ways or train fares back from Blackpool plus the time involed there wont be much change out of £700 which for me is a little on the high side.
Not Having a go at S&D here I think for the quality of the work they do its a fair price. I just can't justify it for the sake of a trip to Le Mans.
I will keep an eye out for a roof and have a go at one myself at some point.
