Finally gave up waiting for GT5 to be released so have now got an XBox with Forza 3 instead and I'm thoroughly enjoying it but I'm starting to wonder about a getting a steering wheel. This thread may come to nothing as I have some reservations about crossing the threshold into true nerd-hood but hey ho...

I realise this topic has been covered before but I didn't really reach a satisfactory conclusion from what I have read from searches.

I'm thinking sub £100, couldn't really justify more for the amount I play. The two front runners appear to be Microsoft's own wheel and the Logitech one but both seem to have downsides. People seem to say the Microsoft one has a dead zone around the straight ahead and crap pedals and Logitech one seems to have inferior force feedback so I'm left a little confused as to whether either are worth the bother. What are people's thoughts?

Its also unlikely that I'll ever have a proper seat so I'd like to know how well each of them work using a coffee table to mount the wheel and the pedals sat on the carpet.

I have one of these:

http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/4-/13332561/Madc...

It was only £25 on offer a while ago at argos, well worth the amount I payed.

Use it a fair bit on Forza 2+3, Dirt, Project Gotham and Grid.

So far the only gripes I have with it are that the pedals can slide away unless put against something and the Madcatz sticker fell off the pedal surround.
But it has seen a lot of use over 2 years and not broken or deveoped any annoying bugs/faults.

The wheel is pretty small, but has adequate resistance and returns to center nicely. Force feedback isn't too strong but I can live with that.

For the money I don't think there is anything else, but if I had no limits then I'd get this:

I have the Microsoft one and the fanatec, I had the Microsoft one first and was very pleased with it, the pedals wernt great but you don't really think about them when playing.
My wife then bought me the fanatec wheel for Christmas which made the Microsoft version feel like a cheap plastic toy, however, the fanatec is very expensive and is not perfect, it immits a very annoying high pitch whistle that fanatec recon is normal, but I think is a design fault.
Ofcourse the other advantage of the fanatec is that it works with both playstation and xbox, the only wheel on the Market that does, so in a way that makes it better value and much more convieniant to use than any other wheel.
Another poster on here has used all 3 wheels incl logitec and I think he said the logitec was best value of the 3??
But do get a wheel, it makes it that more immersive and enjoyable, just don't think it will make you any faster!!

Cheers chaps. I was aware of the fanatec one but its just too much for me I'm afraid.

The madcatz one looks like it may be worth a punt at that price though.

I'd probably pick up an XBox and Forza if the XBox let me use my G25. Or is it the other way round?

Nope, G25 won't work on Xbox. I've been looking all over for an adapter so i could have it on Forza frown

I was going to shoot for the Madcatz wheel last year as I had one for the PS2 & it was a good buy. However, the 360 model did not seem to have a port for the headset. The product linked after the OP seems to be the evolution model which takes it back on my hitlist.
