Just watched this and I thought it was very good. Admittedly I am a big Scorsese fan, but this film has you guessing to the very end (and in fact beyond the end of the film). Don't want to post any spoilers but I would say it is worth a watch, especially if you like his previous films.

Seen the trailers for it and it does look very good, might be one to watch at the cinema.

For me the trailers gave the plot away pretty quickly. The Interviews filled in the rest. It's probably the fault of the studio wanting to maximise the director and star.

Watched this yesterday and really enjoyed it. I couldnt' see which way it was going until the very end and found it well paced throughout.

One of the best films I've ever seen, without a doubt.

There wasn't a 'Mediocre films I watched this weekend' thread or I would've posted this there.

I'm normally a Scorsese fan but this one just didn't quite hit the spot. Some effects were exceptionally good but the boat and car journeys with studio backgrounds were rather shoddy. It promised to be a real atmospheric thriller but just fizzled out towards the end with a convenient ending.

I thought the jeep journey was a bit too false and assumed it was a green screen job - until I saw the corresponding reflections on the peak of the governor's hat.

I almost walked out of the cinema - really (I'd had a long day and thought; I'd rather be at home in bed than care what happens). It was so very very slow. The ending I thought was good - especially his closing lines, because it really made you think - not least, it makes you remember back through the film bits and then you realise "why". However, the rest of the film was so utterly frustratingly slow.

Is the obvious back projection a cinematic nod to movie history, Scorcese is big one for history, and isn't this him having some genre fun, all those noir-ish films of the past? Tarantino did it in Pulp Fiction, sort of altered reality

Hmm, you might be right, maybe I just had a whoooosh moment and it went over my head.

Haven't seen the film yet, but read the book years ago and thought it was brilliant, real shock at the end "didn't see that one coming....".

Not sure I want to see the film as I'm not sure it could ever be as good.

Not as good as it thinks it is.

I was disappointed, and only stayed to the end because I was hoping it would improve. It didn't.

Pretentious garbage. Slow start, interesting interaction in the cave with that figment of his imagination and an inconclusive ending. What a waste of +2hrs.

Edit - Figment, not pigment

wonderful acting, direction, set, costume, and everything else - but a terrible awful and pointless story, time I can't get back

Exactly. All the elements for a good film, they just forgot about the plot.

Watched it last night. Brilliant... engineering, craftsmanship (?) by Scorcese. And well acted all round. But I did find that after the ending I was left thinking. Hmmm... Something either lacking, or it should have twisted again in the ending.

Put simply I found myself, after all wonderful workmanship by the assembled, just little unsatisfied.

I thought it was painfuly slow and di Caprio was utterly unconvincing. About as much fun as a visit to the proctologist.

I agree about Di Caprio, but I'm not a big fan, I can never forget it's Di Caprio in whatever roles he plays. He is always strikes me as physically lightweight, in pretty much all the roles he plays.
