A new TV motoring programme has a little problem, in that it cannot seem to pinpoint the original new price of a V8S and what were it's contemporaries when new ?

I volunteered to research it and thought of :-

1] Morgan +8
2] Porsche 944 turbo cab
3] Jaguar XJ-S

What else please

Its my V8S that they are trying to pitch another car against. The cars above, apart from the Jag I would say were rivals, possibly the Marcos V8. I know the TV company told me that an AC Cobra might be an option which I agree with and a Lotus Esprit would have been similarly priced at the time!!!

I have a few old magazines from 1992 i will check tonight and confirm tomorrow but I think the price was between £23-£25K IIRC in 1992.

I wouldnt mind going against either cars, the V8S as far as I know is faster than both if you compare against a 911 and Testarossa from 1991...? Although the Testarossa doesnt come in a convertible..? MrSheen has been telling me to ask the TV company to put it against the Testarossa, I guess it would make a good comparison, was the testarossa worth all that extra money.............??

Quite often on Ebay there are magazines from the time with write ups and comparisons for most TVR's...

This might be worth a look...

Would that be the G33 (or is the it the G27) ?

Edited to add.. of course that had the Standard Rover 3.9 in it, so again would not be as quick as the V8S I reckon.

Main rival - TVR Griffith (4.0) n'est pas

Edit to add, one Hant's Member got one new as he prefered the shape to the Griff. Fast Lane called the V8S the Poor Man's Griffith, or for those who couldn't wait.

AFAIK the G33 evolved into the G27 so at the time it would still be the 33. Love them to bits and still might be tempted to swap the chim for one at some point.

Andy Hill's V8S was magazine tested a while back and I know it was pitched against a Morgan due to the RV8 lumps. Cant remember the other car in that test.

There was only the three cars my V8S, Morgan +8 with the 3.5 litre engine and the MG RV8

I think most people try and take that approach.

Didn't they use the Silvia Turbo engine?

Is the V8S from around 1991 ? If so the 911 would be a 964 cab 3.6 or even a 964RS tintop ?
