Cutting a looong story short: We're finally getting our front garden/off-street parking sorted, but the guys doing it have found an old gas main. We've established that the gas is supplied to our house via a new plastic main so the one we've found is redundant.

So far so good, but because we can't find the end we need to get a team out to cut into it to check it's not live before we remove it. The utility company (Wales and West) are trying to organise a team but have said it might be a couple of weekseek

Obviously we don't want to have to stop work on the drive, particularly as SWMBO is due to drop a couple of sprogs in the next month and we'd like it finished before then.

So, does anyone have any idea how to speed the process up (Short of putting a spade through ithehe), or whether there are any private companies about who can do the testing and, if necessary, the capping?

For boiler installations, gas metres and service pipes I use Somone Very Helpful... They are used and approved by both British Gas & Transco, you can contact Someone Very Helpful. You might first though telephone your gas service supplier, where you might get a freebie carried out, I did hence obtaining contact with him.

Mod note: Just a cheeky edit in light of the post below.
