I just received an email in my hotmail inbox, which cracked me up. I deleted it without opening because it was such an obvious virus attempt, but basically it said it was from Facebook and that they had changed my password for "security reasons". It then wanted me to download and open a .zip file to "rectify the problem" and I was to enter a new password. Is it just me, or are the scammer pricks that send this st out getting lazier and thicker? I'm presuming this is some sort of mass mailer worm or similar.

I got it as well, but I guarantee some idiot will fall for it!

Unfortunately a lot of people are not computer literate and would fall for it frown My nan for example is not the best with a computer!

They play the percentages. It is easy to send out hundreds of thousands of emails like this and if they get a hit rate of 0.5% then it is worthwhile.

Yes the attacks are getting dumber but so are the users.

Our Help Desk had a call today from a guy who had a "Do you need Viagra?" email, it had been flagged as spam and dropped into his quarantine folder so what was he phoning to ask.. "Should I open it?".

I wanted to write a virus but I'm not a very good programmer and I couldn't be bothered. Please send this message to everyone you know then delete all the important files from your computer. Thanks.

I've had one pretending to be from 'HM Revenue and Customs'. Don't know if it was a virus but it was definetly a scam. I can see a lot of people falling for it.

As said above it is simply a percentages game with this lot, the latest ones appear to be the "rogue" antivirus ones, they come up saying that you have X virus on your machine and to get rid of it you need to purchse Y software, problem is that people are stupid and will go for it.

For instance if my mother say a message like that she would more than likely click on it.

How do you know what it said if you didn't "open" it?

I don't know how they could do stats, but it's reckoned that 1 in 1000, so 0.1% get responded too.

So send a million emails and that's a 1000 replies.

I think it's funny when people send false details to them - like the spammers care.
