Ford Cortina Seems to be off a 1.6 as the vacuum take off is at 12 oclock whereas the larger engined cars have it at 2 oclock. See http://www.zyworld.com/caprisport/1_brakes.htm
for confirmation of that. I remembered this from my 1977 Cortina 2.3 estate sold in 1986 which confirms what a sad lot get on this site

If its the same as my 280i FHC then it will be from a 2.3 cortina.
I have just re built my master cylinder with the help of Ebay and, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...
worked perfectly.
I can give you a hand if you are local to north Kent.
did you sort out some 16" wheels and tyres?
Ive got some if you are interested.

I still have my Haynes manuals for all the Cortina MK3 and onwards, plus Capris, (having owned or butchered at least one of every model).for confirmation of that. I remembered this from my 1977 Cortina 2.3 estate sold in 1986 which confirms what a sad lot get on this site
Well, they may 'come in' one day.

Standard servo is either 1.6 Cortina or Capri. They're essentially the same unit but the rod at the back that attaches to the brake pedal are different lengths - not the end if the world to modify but easier to get the right one. Being as so much else on the wedge is Cortina that would be my first choice - if you find out can you post up with confirmation.

Afraid it is a bit of an oddball due to the diameter, yes it was a ford capri/cortina but only for a short period as they fitted a larger diameter one that are more common so a bit like rocking horse. I found a Peugeot one off an old 205 as in interim measure then after hunting eBay for a while asking sellers dimensions I found the right one. I'll see if I can dig more info, I originally did a search on PH and previous posts revealed the servo on a wedge seems to be a mystery.Update - Found an old post of mine, the wedge servo is 8" diameter, most ford one's are 9" diameter, hope this helps

hallsie, clicked on your link and the servo kit on it is for a capri, is this the kit you got for your 280 fhc ? checked my brake fluid today and its gone. I have just re built my master cylinder with the help of Ebay and, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

Also Brian, did you find all the fluid had run out of the bottom of the master and down the servo to collect in the bodywork? the actual master is no a complete seal on the servo so that if you do get a leak on the pistons its quite obvious.
If not then it may be a leak further down the system.
If you want any help with the master give me a shout, Im in Gravesend, it wont take long to get to essex!!

To be honest i did'nt take to a very good look, i went and checked the car in the garage after work today, been a couple of weeks since i last run it,and the brake pedal felt different, checked the master cyl, empty. I did look and feel under the servo but could'nt feel anything and it was to dark to see under the rear of the car, and could'nt see any obvious leeks on the front calipers. I'll pull the car out at the weekend and have a good look. Keep you updated and thanks for the reply and offer Stu, very greatful. PS car is a 280i fhc.

Stu your spot on, pulled my 280i out today and the brake fluid is leeking from the master cyl where it joins the servo, so ordering that service kit today, thanks Brian. If not then it may be a leak further down the system.
