Anyone flown Emirates on the A380-800 in J? I'm wondering what the bar and the staggered seating arrangements are like, and is the 'window side' any different to the 'aisle side' when in the window seats?

Yeah I've seen that, but am after an experienced view. Like, (and this will depend on flight but) does the bar get busy and should I get a seat away from it if I want to sleep? And was it more comfortable being next to the window (for privacy) or aisle (for being served food and stuff) or did it make no difference?

I was on an Emirates 380 on Sunday.....

It's actually not very good, the seats in business class are in a 1-2-1 formation but if you are in the middle you are either right next to the other person (OK if you know them well) or a long way apart with a lot of stuff in between.

Your seat reclines into an almost flat position but you end up with your feet in a box that goes under the storage area for the person in front, it's not long enough if you are 6 foot or more and it's quite narrow. Then on one side you have quite a high flat area you can put things with a couple of shelves the bottom of which has some cans and a glass. No idea why, you'd get something cold from the cabin crew or the bar.

Meanwhile the entertainment system kept rebooting, my wife's seat wouldn't move and they managed to leave our bags in Dubai when we transferred to Sydney.

On the flight I was on (which was a late night out of Sydney to Dubai) nobody used the bar that I could tell. But it is just the other side of a curtain so it has potential to be noisy if you are back there.

If you are going via Dubai (can you go with Emirates anywhere except through Dubai?) don't hold out any hope for the lounge, it's dreadful. Far too many people, catering is poor and the wifi is so slow as to not be worth bothering with.

The car service is good but par for the course these days and whilst Etihad will send you an S class or a 7 series with Emirates we got a volvo, an A8 (which was nice), a Holden and, on returning to the UK, a Mercedes van!

All in all Emirates has become one of the worst business class offerings, sad because it used to be one of the best.

(If you are going to be in one of the single seats go for window side, the ailse side are right next to the aisle whereas the window ones have a bit of privacy.)

Thanks, useful info. I hope my "ICE" doesn't pack up! I'm not too fussed about the cars, had Volvos and Lexuses ... Lexi ... whatever before but just getting a ride is good enough for me (especially since we're probably heading out on Christmas Day). I was considering seat 23A/K but on the long flight from DXB-MEL-AKL the bar will probably get pretty busy ...

Dubai's lounge is always going to be a nightmare unless you're a Gold Skywards member I think. Last time at their Heathrow lounge (on Boxing Day) it was empty and silent which was great. Our DXB stop is only for a couple of hours so I doubt we'll have enough time to make use of it.

It seems a terrible shame that with so much space the layout is still compromised. I guess they have to make the payments somehow...

Yup, does seem a bit odd to have so little foot-room when the lie-flat is flat.

Hi there - I flew on the A380 Biz class last December from LHR to Dubai en-route to Dhaka.

I found it fantastic. The bar was very busy for most of the flight - at least 10-12 people in there for the duration of the flight and it was good fun. They take polaroid pictures of you at the bar and give them to you in a frame etc.

The seats in the middle are a bit strange as another poster mentioned as you're either right next to each other or too far apart to even talk properly.

If you're flying solo the window seats are definitely the ones to have.

I found the service and food great onboard and certainly comparable to Virgin Upper and Ba Club World. However, service at Dubai airport itself was pretty poor when our inbound Emirates flight was late and we missed our connection due to no fault of our own and Emirates did very little to help us.

There's a bunch of flights a day, although you're right, at the moment it might only be one a day on the 380. Come December there are (currently) quite a few.

Yeah when I flew in December there was only one A380 flight a day. I took the 777ER on the return leg which was fine but not as good as the A380 which if you haven't been on it before you'll realise is very quiet!

Use this forum if you want good information on Emirates or any other airlines.

I have an account there actually, very useful although also very US-centric.

Personally I'd pick the 777 any day, so long as it is one with the seats that recline in a shell. I use Bose headphones so there is no difference in the noise and being able to sit next to my wife and talk to her is something I like! But the 380 might be good if you are on your own.

Pot luck at the moment while they upgrade their fleet. I had a right stty 777 back from Dubai, because the 380 had a 'technical fault' frown I was also right next to noisy economy, but at least I hadn't been downgraded like some had.
