156 engine knocking sound
Discussion
Hi everyone
I'm in the market for a cheapish (sub £1500) alfa 156, and have spotted one very cheap and nice looking example (with tan leather
) that is described as having a "knocking sound when accelerating" The engine is a 2.0TS that has done 87,000 miles. Is this going to be a big very expensive problem or is it possible that its fixable for a few hundred?
Thanks for any info
James
ETA: Very little point starting another thread for this question so i'll tag it on here. What are the Selespead gearboxes like, any good? avoid at all cost?

I'd assume worst case scenario, bottom end gone...you should be able to get one for the price you're thinking so I'd walk away unless you can be sure it's only a minor problem.
Personally, I wouldn't touch a Selespeed but those who have good ones reckon they're great.
