I am going through the motions of patent protecting a set of TV/monitor wall mounting brackets that would suit most flat screens up to around 60 inches.

I am not involved in this industry and designed them for my own use initially after refusing to pay the stupid prices you see everywhere.

I can produce for around £10-£15 per set depending on volume. I am sure they could be sold for double this or more by the right people.

Anyone involved in retailing or the wholesale of products like this? I would appreciate any connections that might want to discuss this new product with me. Thanks.

Hi Einsign,

What are your USP's? (Unique Selling Points) for the brackets you've made up?, what would potential customers see as an advantage your your system compared to the masses that you see on ebay for instance?

Whenever I've looked at wall brackets for our TV's and also my friends who also have needed and done the same, price was the main factor. There's not really much more a TV bracket can do in the eyes of most people. Ok, so the ones that allow angle adjustment horizontally and the ones that can extend out etc, but theres hundreds of those already. Will your's perhaps offer vertical plane adjustment as well?

I'm struggling to think what else I'd want a TV bracket to do.. is it quick release mechanism or something? made from Titanium for lightness etc? does it make a cup of tea and change the channel for you during advertisement breaks?!

Cheers, Dennis! West London & Slough UK!

The USP primarily would be as mentioned, the cost would be cheaper than anything else you can probably find and they could almost be given away with the sale of a new TV.

The design is quite a simple one and doesn’t offer bells and whistles like some do, but that’s why its cheap!

I cannot divulge too much about the design on here until protected but thought I would start making a few enquiries too see who might be interested.

Be careful on this one, wholesale prices are very, very low on these already, and the market is pretty flooded.

I looked at them 4 years ago and the market wasn't too bad, but shortly after it really got very flooded. Worth a look around to see what others are doing, and what you can buy them for directly from the factories (I think you'll be surprised how cheap they are already!).

If you can manufacture a really good, top quality stand, that's another matter entirely.

Mine is solid aluminium, motorised on the TV remote, and hides all the wires up the back of it. Cost just over £500 and worth every penny.

Hi Einsign

No worries on divulging, I can understand that.

However, a Patent I think is for something new and unique possibly in your design & something you don't want other's to copy. Is that something you do have?

Else, if it's just on price that you'll compete on - I think you'll have bit of a hard time convincing potential interested parties to purchase. Usual stuff there, being the cheapest will raise the inevitable query automatically, that it's also the lowest quality.

I hope the feature you've spent money on patenting is something that will spearhead your sales - but for now I'm oot!

I am the factory.. I agree about your £500 stand but most people wont pay that. And yes I could design a decent version. Maser I need to speak to you about another matter!

I would be very careful here. When we started selling flat panels in 2001 the average costs were around £150-£200.00 from the likes of Vogel and Unicol. The latter being in the main for the professional sector. At this time panels were in the region of £10k so the price of a flat mount was a minor part of the overall cost.
As you know the price of a panel has dropped to around £500.00 for a 'cheap' 42" screen so there is no way that the average joe, will pay over £50.00 for a mount to go with it.
Flat mounts for screens up to 32" are now available in 100 off qty for £10-£12.00 and for panels up to 50" around £17.00.
Remote controlled swivel types for screens up to 32" are around £90.00
Sadly you only have to take a gander at ebay to see the latest suicidal pricing levels. Most customers dont give a hoot about the bracket, as long as it does the job.
Drop me a PM if you want any more info

Just to add....bea rin mind also with the advent of LED backlighting that the overall weight of the panel is decreasing rapidly. You may well be aware of Samsungs cable mount which although stupidly expensive seems to be the way that mounts are going.

I would also be wary of laying out any money on a Patent. If the product is remotely good the Chinese will copy it in no time. Will you have deep enough pockets to protect it?
Funnily enough I spent 10 minutes today looking for a deal on 4 LCD brackets for my house. I personally don't want to pay more than £100 for the lot. I'll let you know how i get on!

I own manufacturing facilities in the UK and CHINA…

We could probably make these things for £4.00 if the volume was right. I don’t have the time for such a small project but thought someone on here might like to consider exploiting my skills.

Thanks.

Ironically that probably means it'll be copied even quicker..

We had a couple of years of extremely good sales with a bracket we originally designed for Virgin Trains.

I then had notification from eBay that another seller alleged that we'd copied their bracket. They had, in fact, bought one of ours and copied it. We were closed down on ebay despite having proof of design which had been lodged with a patent attorney we used some years earlier...

Although we finally got up and running again, with a new shop, sales dropped and dropped until there was no longer any point listing them. There was no way we could compete with the spot-welded chinese rubbish being offered for half the price of ours, and still have about 500 of them in the factory!

Oh well, you live and learn eh...
