Could be a bent contact in the switch. Needs a poke with a multimeter or the good old Mk.1 Eyeball to see what's happening!

I had the very same problem on Monday - traced the fault to a loose wire going into the connector behind the dash which had popped out.

There are a couple of diodes in the headlamp control circuit; seems to be a few different versions of the wiring so I can't say conclusively but it's feasible that a blown diode would give you similar symptoms.

There are 2 diodes under the pasanger footwell in the fues box bottom row of the fues board, are these the ones? How can i test if there to blame?

Try swapping them over (make bloody sure you put them in the right way round though, note the bands around one end) and see if you get the same, or a different fault. About 10p each from Maplins if they are/ you make them kaput biggrin
