Rev limit for blacktop Zetec?
Discussion
Hi guys, I am not sure if this is the best forum for the question, but I know a lot of people use Zetecs in kits so it would be a good place to start.
My Fury has a 2.0L Zetec Blacktop with twin Webers and an aftermarket mapped ignition system. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the system but I will check tonight when I get home! All the internals are standard.
The rev limiter seems to cut in at about 6000rpm, maybe just over. I am no Zetec expert, but isn't that a little bit low for a modern four pot engine? What can these safely rev to, and will it make any more power as a result? Obviously there's no point spinning it harder if it can't breathe properly at those revs. At the moment it seems to make good power all the way to the limiter though.
I miss the sound of my old 4AGE MR2 on full chat, I don't think it even had a limiter . . .

7000 or 7400 if you fit ARP bolts to the bottom end. This is a very useful site -

Thanks for the link jcas, that is a useful site. I will have to find out what ignition system I have and see how hard it is to bump the limiter up a touch. ARP bolts would be a simple change as well, I wonder if I can get the sump off with the engine in the car . . .
Haven't seen a kit car yet where you couldn't. Not saying there isn't one, just that I haven't seen it.Gassing Station | Kit Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
