What's the friggin fascination with this Irish themed day that makes radio DJ's wk over the mere thought of it and sees so many Englishmen head for the pub to drink stloads of Guiness, midweek????

Why are these party seekers not bothered about St Georges day ?

Its used by those that want to as an excuse to get really drunk. Dj's want to be seen to be all for 'fun' so latch onto it.

Personally I think it is shameful that our national holiday (I'm Irish) is used in this way, although I have to say I was quite proud of the Irish here in Ireland yesterday as anyone I know was out and about doing family things (parades etc...) and no-one I know was heading to the pub.

I did notice that the London eye-wheel thing and Big Ben were lit up green yesterday, I thought it was a nice gesture (though my cynical side was thinking maybe its an attempt at vote getting)

Anyway I think every country should celebrate its national day - not necessarly in the pub - but that we should all take pride in who we are and where we come from.

wtf! why? Do the Irish light up Dublin Castle/the government building with the flag of St George on St George's day? I ssuspect fking not!

Good on the Irish for celebrating Paddys day (wish the English did so more on St Georges day) but why other nationalities celebrate it is a mystery to me.
