'Dating' Americans...
Discussion
Brothers,
Having been hanging out with the American for quite a few weeks now, we came upon the topic of 'dating'....
Now I'm not completely new to going out with girls, and quite chilled out regarding relationship stuff. However in my somewhat limited experience of meeting English girls, you meet in a bar, possibly go home together that night or a subsequent night, get freaky, then if you really like each other carry on doing that, and then should the topic come up "Would you consider me your girlfriend"? - Yes if you liked her, and no if you didn't and didn't want to see her again. If you answered "yes" then eventual relationship, get married, kids stuff.
Anyway, inevitably the American came out with the "if someone asked you, what would you say I am to you"? I obviously thought about it, so I said "I guess I would say you're like my girlfriend maybe"? (I'm really not hung-up on terminology).
Sheeeeeeat....Very wrong answer.
She then proceeded to explain to me the American guide (summarised) of dating:
1. Meet someone
2. If mutual attraction agree to 'date' (no sex)
3. Continue dating other people
4. If after quite a few dates together have 'a chat' about becoming 'exclusive'
5. You are now considered 'exclusively dating'.
6. After anything of up to 3months, maybe sleep together, and refer to questioning as 'Seeing someone'
7. After sleeping together for a few months, you may (after agreement) refer to each other as boyfriend/girlfriend.
8. Maybe meet the parents after a year, but this is serious.
9. Meet parents = you then should consider getting engaged in the near future.
I'm sure there was something about signing a formal agreement in there somewhere as well.
Is this normal??
Thanks in advance from a rather perplexed brother.
Peace

I've had three American girlfriends, f
ked all of them on the first night, never went through any of that stuff at all. Met one parent, they were so appalled by me they told her she had to go back to America or be ostracised.
So on that basis, I'd say you just picked a duff one, move on.

I was going to say the same, I didn't had to go through all that with the American girls I met.

If Rohypnol had a website with a testimonials page, this would be on it.

maybe!?!?! f
k that or rather not it seems.if she is really fit then I guess the answer is to cruise along this path whilst enjoying a bit of strange on the side, then when she succumbs dump hetr like a stone.
sounds like she is reading one of those crappy American dating guides.
ETA my only experience was with 1 US girl - both dates ended in considerable rutting
