Best music player for PC

Ive always used Winamp for years and years and years but now Ive built a PC with Windows 7 Im thinking its time to upgrade to something more modern. What would you reccommend for playing MP3's etc which allows changing the sound to suit my tastes with an equalizer etc?

There's nothing wrong with Winamp, stick with that if its what you're used to.

Otherwise I'd suggest trying foobar, it is completly customisable in almost every aspect. It will "look" quite basic out of the box, so be prepared to spend some time to set things up how you'd like them, but it is very powerful.There are many configurations available online, mostly including all the plugins used and config files etc. so you don't have to get your hands dirty.

Give AIMP2 a try. Small footprint and very customiseable.

Winamp has an equaliser, doesn't it. If you feel it's a bit old, just install a new skin.

Depends what you want it for?

I use MediaMonkey to keep over 1TB of digital music organised and tagged and it links in with Winamp nicely for playing. Finding Winamp's getting a bit bloated lately and probably going to go back to an old version without all the un-needed bumph. Too many boxed to un-tick every time it tries to update.

Heard nothing but good things about Foobar, it can do almost anything you can think of but takes some setting up.

Songbird's coming through strong as a nice open source player/ organiser but not that technically advanced and a bit iTuney


Just steer clear of iTunes and Windows Media Player and you should be fine

Winamp is still the daddy for me. Key commands work so well with queuing etc. Nothing else seems as flexible.

I still don't believe that Winamp has been beaten, on any platform. I find the combination of flexibility, power and stability to be completely unmatched, especially if you get Winamp Pro. No pissing around converting file formats so you can burn them to CD, just put them in a playlist, go to the Burn section, click "Add current playlist". Job done.

Foobar is the best I've found. It does take some setting up and configuring, but it can be made to do absolutely anything you can think of. It's also lightning fast in indexing files and takes very little resources.

Songbird is a nice 'out the box' solution, but isn't as snappy as Foobar and has very little options by way of configuration.

I ended up installing Winamp again lol. Ive downloaded the DFX plugins though so that will be interesting to see what difference it makes. I'll definitely have to try out Foobar though as that looks really good. As long as it has good sound quality though thats what is most important.

Foobar has excellent sound quality. Especially if you have a fancy soundcard and install the optional ASIO/WASAPI components
