Does this exemplar look well to the expert's eye?

I would spend a few hours reading about the Tuscan on here, have a search through old threads, then hop into the speed six forum so you know what you (could) be getting into. The engine doesnt have its own forum for nothing

Speaking from personal experience, i wouldnt buy a pre 2004 car that hasnt had an engine rebuild, simple as. And, if i was really being honest, i would want a car that has had its engine rebuilt by TVR Power, Str8 Six or Dulfords (not dealt with Dulfords but all reports are good).

That although it looks like it has been well kept, looks to be on its original engine @30k miles, which is about average for when they need attention, if they need any at all (some dont) so just be careful...

Dont let me put you off, if you find a good car they are to

Looks very nice and well looked after but as said you need to be a little careful with the engine side of things.
I didnt and my engine went pop after 34 miles.
There are experts available that will make the necessary inspection for you engine wise etc.
If you can budget for a rebuild if it is necessary and get their price down you would end up with a real stunner.

The car looks ok from what photographs can demonstrate. At this age condition of chassis maybe an issue as well as any engine issues anyone would like to scare you with. I would suggest that a 51 plate car that has got to the mileage it has now without an engine rebuild has no nasties hidden within.

Trying to associate just a date to establish a "safe" engine is folly, it's also about the way the engine has been loked after during use and how well and not just how frequently the car has been serviced. I would be interested to identify the number of owners the car has had, the more its had, the more concerened I would be about the consistancy of care required to keep everything fit and well.

The car is at a dealers and is offered with a warranty, would be important to undertsand if that warranty covered wear and tear.

Coulour scheme is good, and IMO, the 4.0 litre engine is more desirable in the Tuscan.

The Warranttee on my Mk1 listed Engine, Diff, AC, etc etc but had a hand written little note in the corner of one page saying max claim ₤250.

And no I wasnt there when it was picked up, I was in the US.

I wouldn't let all of the scare stories put you off too much.
As long as you go into it with your eyes open then you'll be OK.

From what I can read, the earlier cars are not necessarily more prone to engine failure than the later ones. There are also examples of newer cars that have required rebuilds as there are with Porsches and BMWs.

I bought a Tuscan on a 2000 'Y' plate three years ago with 29500 on the clock.
It now has 45000 on the clock and has barely skipped a beat. (bar the odd flat battery and throttle cable)

Thats not to say it wont go bang tomorrow but then if that happens, I will have had 3 years of almost trouble free motoring.

He's right and I dont mean to give just negatives.
I'm on my second Tuscan (fourth TVR) and absolutely love it. I wrecked my first and although I had spent a lot of money on engine etc I was absolutely gutted to loose it.
They are great fun and have so much road presence. How many cars can have young boys all the way up to old Ladies asking you questions.
People asking to have their photo's taken standing by your car.
