Domain Sales

Hello all,

Im' in the throws of setting up to service SMB's and residential customers in my area. As an addition to this I would like to include a domain check and sell system.

I'm using Joomla for the site, and could probably write a domain checker if I can't download one but I was wondering what's required to actually sell domains?

I presume i'll have to get into bed with nominet et al at some point, but how do i do it and make money, no matter how small the mark up?

Obviously this is just for UK domains. It's not to onerous or expensive and you get to buy domains at £5.00 + VAT.

Thanks Tim, i haven't looked at the site, but £5 seems expensive? i can buy a domain from 123-reg for less than that? Is it a bulk thing?

They're selling them at a loss. NOMINET won't sell domains for less than £5 (per 2 year period remember).

Perhaps not the best thing to add to a start up then.

You can't compete on price but you can add value - I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand.

Or you could register the domain via 123-reg then transfer it out of their control?

I don't see why Davie? Surely as long as you transfer title of the domain to the person that buys it you won't have a problem?

Most small businesses don't fully understand domains anyway, so as long as you gain their trust you can charge a bit more to cover your administration and make a profit
