De-Catting

Morning all,

I'm thinking of getting an ACT de-catted Y piece and just wanted to know if anyone has fitted one of these before and if so how easy / difficult it was? Also has anyone done this and then regretted it?

Am I right in thinking that I must also remove the pre cats if fitting a ACT Y piece? Does anyone know how is this done?

Yes. Easy. Not yet.

I don't think it's necessary but, if the main cat is gone there seems little point in keeping the pre-cats. Not that I can think of anyway.

Is it always neccessary to put cats back at MOT time or does it vary from car to car ? Has anyone got through an MOT with a de-catted 500 ?

Have a look at Clive F's Y piece,a far better piece of kit in MHO...

Taking out the pre cats is reltively easy but time consuming. Loads of advice on here if you search pre cat removal. Some take out the pre cats without removing the manifolds but I found it easier taking the manifolds off. Are you going to do this yourself or book it in? Email me if you need any more.

I fitted the ACT y-piece and expected it to fail the MOT. It scrapped through at the very end of the test where it counts to 30 and flashed-up pass. I was expecting to have to find-out if the tester was thirsty. I think the pre-cats still being there helped

I noticed on one of your previous threads that you cermakromed your standard manifolds and Y Piece. Does Clive's Y Piece come already Cermakromed or are you going to get it done before you fit it?

My manifolds and Y piece were ceramachromed back in 04.... I'm pretty certain my main Cat is kaput, hence buying Clives....

Its so nicely made I'm just going to fit and leave it alone...

As for the main exhaust, my Car has a JP sports exhaust that I bought 10 years ago, and its still like new, so I'll be using that...

The silencer box is half the size of standard, and half the weight...

It'll be interesting to see what a full decat, Clive Y piece, & JP sports sounds like

I'm not a big fan of really loud exhaust, so hopefully it'll be ok

Did you buy Clive's fuel tune resistor as well?

I am still really not sure what to do about my exhaust, it is standard at the moment. I am tempted either with the full ACT manifolds with 200 cell CATS or Clive's Y Piece with the existing manifolds (pre CATS removed).
