This is why a national DNA database would be a good thing...

How about this for a start:"Sorry sir, but a rudimentary scan of your DNA shows us that you have a 59% chance of not being cured of cancer by the treatment, so the treatment will be withheld."
- or -
"Sorry miss, but as we have scanned you and your fiance's dna, we find that we cannot sanction your request to have children as they have a 20% chance of being born with... Your request for having children has been declined unless you marry a different bloke"
- or finally -
"We sincerely apologise for the data error where we mixed your DNA up with the actual killer's. We hope that the last 10 years of your life hasn't been to much of a burden while you were in prison."
Just to name a few...

"'Not foolproof'
Sean Hodgson had spent 27 years in jail for the crime. He was released after it was discovered DNA found at the scene did not match his, but was linked to Lace through a family member. "

A nation wide DNA data base would make it really easy for any future ethnic cleansing type activities to be carried out with startling efficiancy.
If you think that the current relative stability is permanant then you are deluded.
Imagine how easy the holocaust would have been, or the Bosnian upset a little while ago, what about the current situation in some parts of Africa.
I do not trust anyone now or future to do only good things with such an invasive store of information.

Not eveeryone gets cancer treatment now, which can be based simply on the area they live in. Not really any different.ErnestM said:

On the whole I thik it's a good idea. There will always be some innocent people that get sent down, just as there are now, but there will be far far more guilty people who are caught who then would not be able to go on create more victims. So it's for the greater good.
Hypothetically speaking, if one of your family memebers was murdered/raped/something equally as bad and the police had DNA but the person wasn't on the current database and so it went unsolved, would you still be against it?

So if we had a govt/police etc that we had faith in you'd all be in favour?
You really don't understand how people function, do you?Let me explain, how can you have "faith" in anyone with power over you?
Surely, in a "Democracy", all are equal?
Therefore, why should any have more power over any other?
