Come election time how many will be tactical voting to ensure Labour do not retain power?

I know the other main-stream parties are much the same sort of crap when it comes to political bullshyte and the like. But the only real vote to get Labour out is for conservatives is it not? .... even though I dissagree with many of their policies that I am hearing about.

Or will it be the case that many will vote for the smaller parties and in effect strengthen Labour's position for re-election? (as all the state fund dependant voters are only going one way on their ballot card aren't they?)

There is never a "one-answer-fits-all" to this question. It depends entirely on local circumstances. Which party does your local MP belong to? How big a majority? Who usually comes second?

In my constituency, the conservatives have held it since the days of Lloyd George. The liberals always come a good second, but haven't won the seat since the 1920s. The Labour vote around here is a joke - they only just keep their deposit.

If enough xenophobic Little Englanders around here vote UKIP or BNP (niether stand a cat in hell's chance of getting elected) then it will reduce the Tory vote and return a Lib Dem, presumably the opposite of what they want.

Thats local politics for you smile

Any form of voting just maintains the current system.

Well, I believe in Democracy, not "Representative Democracy".
So, for whom should I vote?

In my case I have to vote Lib Dems, as the Tories always come a distant third behind Libs and Labour. Galls me to have to do that though.

I have a similar dilemma, and have voted LD in the past to keep Labour out. But, like all the main parties they are fully committed to the "suck up to the commies greens" agenda, so if UKIP field a candidate I'll probably vote for them.

To where?
Non EU, not available for most.
Luckily, I'm married to a non EU national, so we're soon off.
(Usually I get quoting correct, apologies for previous effort.)

My thoughts exactly. Best of luck with it.

If the main second party in your constituency is the Lib Dems (or SNP in Scotland) I would vote for them if I was in your position.

Every seat held by either the Tories or Labour could be vital to the makeup of the next government and we cannot assume the Lib Dems will automatically go into coalition with Labour in the event of a hung parliament.

A vote for UKIP, or any number of other parties, is wasted under FPTP. So your a right wing euro-sceptic who doesn't think the Tories are red blooded enough, well they have to appeal to 40% of the electorate, not just you.

Funny things happen in politics. Quite a few years ago now, Bristol City Council became one with no overall control after a local election. Labour formed a working coalition with the Tories.

The liberals (as they were then) were not best pleased biggrin

a vote for labour is a vote for bankrupting the country, will look at what lib dems and the tories have to say for themselves and see how it goes

I mean representative democracy. Can one individual really represent the views of thousands of people over hundreds of issues? That's assuming he thinks first of his electorate rather than his party.

Agreed, the next lot (if not Labour) may or may not continue to rape the country? but Labour most definitely will bankrupt us and sell/give the pieces to the lowest bidder, especially as Winky would assume 'Divine right' if he was elected - they need to go, for good, at all costs.

The only party with a chance of outing them is Conservative, that should be clear to anyone. Hopefully a Conservative government would/could make improvements, at least they are (I believe) opposed to many of Labour's control measures; ID cards, Road pricing, Unintelligent speed control etc so even if we're still bankrupt at least we won't be tagged/barcoded at birth.

But I live in a very safe Conservative seat, I don't think it's been anything but Conservative and certainly not in the last 20 odd years that I've lived here, so my vote will make little difference anyway.

Labour must go and anyone who votes for them, directly or indirectly has got something wrong with them...

Yep. Much as I prefer UKIP policies I shall vote Tory to try and prevent Mr Brown getting the chance to f**k the country up even more.
