...in the UK to own a private firearm, would you?
I'm ex-Army so have seen close up the damage they can do, it's not pretty, especialy high velocity assault weapon rounds etc...
I've been fully trained in how to use and look after firearms from 9mm pistols to '50 cals (also Mortars, Milan, and most other stuff - great fun
) and understand that when used for the job in hand, they are lethal. What scares me is other people with them who might simply pull the trigger and worry about the consequences afterwards.

Would I take it further and have one in the house? Dont know to be honest. Probably would.
Will it help with the gun culture we now have thanks to some t
t in Dunblane making them tools of Satan, and therefore cool? Nope.

I allready own several shotguns, so yes i would like to own some proper firearms. Mainly for hunting and sporting use, but ive allways wanted a browning hi-power.
Ah - that reminds me - what I forgot to mention is I've also had shotguns in the UK but under lock and key in a cabinet bolted to the wall etc... So if anyone tried to break in it wouldn't be that quick a job to get them, get the shells and then confront someone.I'm talking about having them under your pillow or next to the bed - the wife has one in her handbag and you have on in the glovebox of your car...

It is legal though with the relevant FAC - or are you talking about the US style 'walking into wal-mart' type of legal..? I'm ex-Army so have seen close up the damage they can do, it's not pretty, especialy high velocity assault weapon rounds etc...

For example, an AK in standard form is out, however a straight pull version (effectively making it a single bolt action) is fine with the relevant FAC.
Have owned several handguns, been trained, issued and carried assault rifles/shotguns, handguns and a number of other larger things that go bang.I would in a blink of an eye, if legal in the UK, invest in a semi auto shotgun and a handgun or two. I thoroughly enjoy shooting, both rifle and practical pistolry as a sport, seriously miss the range.

It may be ok for you to talk about the 'joys' of weapons and how much wonderful 'I have' training, but seriously do you expect a post such as this to attract positive comments?
" - great fun
) " WTF? How can this be great fun, if, when you happen to be a family member of the opposite side that loses their father etc this is " - great fun
) " ?Do you think for one minute that those guns can be cool in the UK when they are illegal without a FAC? And as for mortars etc, well hardly relevent is it?
Even if you get one, what benefit is there from shooting a paper target with a .38 live round pistol compared with .77 air-gun? Yes the bigger live round gun goes bang, and the damage is more but it is a paper target or have I missed the point completely??

More to the point - what are you going to do with yourself in civvy street now you have no army, and no targets with all those killing skills? Licensing guns is one thing. Accomodating ex trigger-happy military is another.
This is not meant in any way to be a personal attack, but moreso an eye opener for those that have not thought about the flipside. If we had no military we would have no country, and for that alone I will always be gratefull. On the other, I am concerned as to what we do with our highly trained ex-military when the force no longer needs them

Ah, the old legal guns leads to violent crime propaganda. Never seems to die, presumably there is a government department tasked with keeping it going. Repeat until true, comrade.
FYI, Switzerland and Canada have more guns per head than the US, and are safer. The US is, for normal citizens, safer than the UK. Disarming the UK population has been a government project since about the end of WWI, and it has not made us safer. It's made people like Bliar and Clown safer, of course.
Not sure I'd want one in the house, at least not for home defence. But I'd be more inclined to shoot as a sport and look to hunting.

So you think it would be a good thing if 'Garry the Chav' could go and pick up a gun at 18 and take carry it around his towerblock? Because thats what would happen if guns were easy to get hold of.The aim is the have guns in the hands of responsible people, the majority of people in the who UK who own guns have been brought up with them and have been given plently of saftey training.
Yeah I would have. I really enjoy shooting, have done so and been around guns since I was young and was pretty good at it.
The only reason I no longer have it as a hobby is because they banned hand guns before I was able to get one (I'm now 26). My Dad didn't think it was worth the hassle just to lose it so quickly. Air guns just didn't make up for it and carbines/rifles, although I shot a good few, didn't either.
I just was let shoot everyone else's, from .22, to .357 and some black powder guns and I'm really glad I got that chance in life... as it seems another freedom that in this country you simply wont be granted the ability to experience by, frankly, narrow minded idiots.
