k. South park is still good, but it's pretty much accepted that south park peaked at the episode "Scott Tenorman Must Die"..
Season 5 or 6, basically.
Then it stayed at a good level until about season 12 where it started going down hill fast.
I don't like how the whole of the US is retarded now. It used to be South Park was the backwards hick town (lyrics from the title song IIRC). Now everyone is.
Also, Kyle is now an absolute pussy as is stan. To make up for this Cartman has become a ultra racist right wing monster.
Last nights episode was the first time I've lold at south park in a while. It needs to get back to its roots and stop centering their shows around a single pop culture reference.
Add in references, sure. That's good. But to base a whole episode on it is mad.
It's going to age really badly as an episode.

I have to disagree with you Frankeh.
South Park for me peaked about 2 seasons ago when they really pushed the limits of what could be shown on TV.
Some classic examples are the episode where Britney Spears blows her own head off, Cartman raving about 'The Passion of The Christ' and setting up a Nazi group and Ike shagging his much older teacher.
Really taboo stuff that was so on the edge it made you cringe. I feel that recently though, Matt and Trey have been tolded by their network to back off a bit. It's become less risky and sadly fails to live up to its previous seasons.
Oh, had to add imagination land, which was probably the beginning of the end and Christmas Critters

seems more based on current affairs..The American spitting image..
Daily Show & South Park are often the most insightful look into US current affairs.

Better to ask the question should it still be made or are there now other shows which have overtaken it, in my honest opinion South Park has few peers and whilst you can nit pick, its still hilarious which is key to its future- I can't look at a single seasona not find one memorable episode.
If I had the chance to only take one tv show series to a desert island South Park would be in the running, easily one of the top 20 shows ever made.

imo thats wrong, one of South Parks greatest strength is the quick turnaround to produce a episode on current affairs to fantastic effect. It has the ability to intelligently challenge the media's sensationalised view of the event.Admittedly yes it ocassionaly gets to OTT (i found the new Tiger episode a bit too much), but still a great way to spend 20 minutes and they still have the ability to pull an amazing episode out of the bag eg. Imagination Land part 1 and 2 which blew me away.

I think thats because the first 9 seasons were mainly focused on them and theres only so long you can focus on such a small number of characters. The Simpsons has only lasted as long as it has through sheer diversity of the character lineup.But if it's not careful it will jump the shark at its current rate.

They do still throw in completely random episodes that don't relate to current events but focus more on character development, such as 'Mr Garrison's Fancy New Vagina' and the one where Cartman thinks he's dead because everyone ignores him. A special mention to the episode where the Queen shoots herself in the head at the end, that caused quite an outcry.
You have to look at the wide range of current events they've challenged, often with the most hilarious outcome, like:
Make love, not Warcraft
Smug Alert (where everyone buys hybrid cars)
Cartoon Wars (about the cartoon of Muhammed on Family Guy)
The Ungroundable (taking the piss out of teen flick Twilight)
Dead Celebrities
All very funny episodes that are based on current events. You are quite right in saying that they will date quickly but I think they are supposed to be enjoyed in the moment. Like Spitting Image, Mock The Week and Top Gear, these things do tend to age sharpish.
