I'm after an ADSL modem that has the facilty to act just as a modem, nothing more, so that I can put a VPN firewall behind it.

However, the Netscreen firewall only supports logon via PPPoE and the Netgear DM602 I bought can only logon if it is in router mode - obviously something I don't need.

Any ideas?

If you update the firmware on the DM602 you can use it in modem only mode.

Also i use it in Router mode and have a Symantec Firewall box connected to it.

I just didn't want to have, in effect, 2 routers running at the same time.

I found this out after i purchased the thing but i was told by technical support at Netgear thet if you set it to router mode and the ip it assigns the the firewall. Use that and set it in the DMZ and all Packets will get sent to firewall and hence you have turned it into a modem

Steve

I know what you mean, about runnig 2 routers. I have a buffalo router as well for wireless access
