Spoke to TomTom tech Support today. Rang the support line because there was not a customer services number on their website for advice on what to buy to fit my requirements (Search for both Address & Post Code, Handsfree Bluetooth, Compatable with iPhone 3Gs and fully updateable from an Apple Mac) and to ask about the performance of their in-car devices in relation to having TomTom iPhone kit and TomTom Maps.
The response was rather surprising,
TTTS: 'Sorry Sir we only offer support on units that have been purchased, have you purchased a unit yet?'
ME: No, I was hoping that your advice would mean that I would purchased the correct unit and hopefully not require further advice or support.
TTTS: Well sir when you have purchased a TomTom we will be able to help.
ME: So your are telling me that when I purchase a TomTom you will offer support by saying that I have purchase the wrong model for my requirements and should have purchased another unit instead? I would have rang your customer services or advice line but you don't have one?
TTTS: Have you spoken to a retailer yet?
ME: Yes they could not advise me because they only sell them and suggest that I talk to you in the first instance Do you have a customer advice line?
TTTS: No
You really could not make it up
I will try Garmin to see if they are any better in the customer relations department.

Appalling service. However, I would say that I have had good support from TT telephone support. And I don't think there is really any doubt that the TT's do everything you want them to. There is plenty of info to suggest that Tomtom Home (the PC software) is fully compatible with Macs.

Your requirements are really down to two manufacturers TomTom and Garmin, I said in my previous post the TomTom Go 750 or 950 would be the best options, I would stick by that, they do everything you want.

Thankyou for your help and advice. I have gone with the TomTom 550 and will update the maps at a later stage if and when I go to europe.
Derek Thanks for your offer to call you, I did have a look around your website which was also very helpful. My partner who will be using the device found that she would be needing it quicker than I expected and I purchased it locally for the same price otherwise I would have given you a call.
