Can anyone recommend suitable brake pads for track use for a Mitsubishi Evo? I went through half a set of pads on saturday at Bedford (they were standard pads put on by the previous owner) and I'm down to bare metal! Also, had quite bad brake fade after 10 or so laps - will switching to race brake fluid help this?

Thanks in advance!

Performance friction pfc 97 - expensive but very impressive

Also works well on the road

There are downsides

Disc wear is quite high
The brake dust is very corrosive

How about the Pagid pads, whats the consensus? I need to keep things on a relative budget.

Thanks.

Hi James,

Told you the brakes would take a hammering!!

You will prob need to have a look at some new discs, as they are warped.

Worth a call to Steve at Track club, he can give you some advice as to which pads/fluid would work, and can supply & fit them as well if you want.

Ideal upgrade without going mad would be: new set of discs & pads, fluid change to higher temperature fluid and braided lines, thats about the best you can do without going to bigger discs/calipers etc

Pagid RS29's are expensive, but bloody good.

You won't hear many bad reports from people who have used them.

Yep, I've been happy with Pagids for performance and wear rate although they weren't a budget option.............

For an evo mate there is no contest....carbotech xp8 or xp10. (do a search on the evo owners sites)

Pee all over the likes of ds3000 etc,ive tried alot of pads in mine and now on my 5th set of xp8 (with 8 pot brakes)

Absolutely awesome!

Get some castrol srf fluid as well mate...never boil that stuff!

Yep! I have an Evo 10. Perfect for Evos on track is the Carbotech XP10 pads and change the fluid for Castrol SRF as previously quoted. You won't find a better set-up for an Evo.

Hope that helps

Completely agree with Carbotech XP8 and SRF (I never tried the XP10)

If you can arrange a brake duct to get some air to the fronts all the better. Absolutely rock solid pedal afterwards.

The only down side to the XP8 is that they squeal sometimes if you do a lot of town work.

It wont be cheap.
You most likely have to replace the rotors .
Metal on metal has probably gouged grooves in the surface.
Race pads and rotors cost less than a crashed car and the insurance premiums.

I use Mintex F4R front and back on a Porsche 944 S2.

Best pad I've ever used - it's technically a race pad although it works very well from cold...much better than you'd expect from race pads! There's no brake fade after stints of 20-30 minutes, and they don't smell like road brakes when hot.

One down side is that the dust is very corrosive, so you might end up having to refurb your alloys (if you care about these things)...

I have a feeling the weight of a 944 S2 is similar to your Evo, so you should get the same results.

I ran with F4Rs on my Evo 6 about 10 years ago along with upgraded discs and bells (Alan Zini upgrade kit if any MLR members remember him).
Good stopping power but it's the only pad I know that eats through discs quicker than the pad itself in the rate of about 2 discs to one set of pads! The added draw back is they leave the steel from the discs all over the wheels and sides of the car. Good pads to run to reface so called 'warped' discs and good endurance pads but I switched to something else in the end (I forget what). Carbotech and Carbo Lorriane were always well regarded on the Evo even back in my days.

I know everyone has there favorite, but.

I use Hawk HP Plus pads.

They are fantastic and I can't recommend them enough.

They get very hard use, extreme late braking with the car standing on it's nose!

Two sets have lasted about 12-14 T/D's and roadwork and still on the same discs which have practically no wear.

There has never been any fade, even after a 40 min session.

For my car, they are almost too good to be true.

Find them on teh web, I use Cambridge Motorsports.
