Windows kicking out

Had my hard drive replaced a week ago with all data/programmes ghosted onto the drive. Today when starting goes into the opening Windows screen then after 1 second kicks into a screen giving me options tostart in Safe Mode, Last known good.... etc etc...non of these work and again just starts looping around viz close>auto start>windows for 1 second>option to start in safe mode etc etc

Before I take the base unit back to the 'repairman'any suggestions what I should try

If its XP then it sounds like you will need to perform a Repair Reinstall. If its Vista or 7, then startup repair will get you going again.

Sounds like driver or FAT file corruption IMO.

bit off the wall here, but open the case and check all the power cables are properly seated, take out and reseat the ram while you are in there. Possible something got disturbed during the upgrade.

Did exactly the same as you on my dads PC recently. New primary disk ghosted across, kept failing to boot. Turned out I had knocked the power cable to his graphics card. Pulled it out , pushed back in again problem solved.

Damn. Had high hopes for this thread. kind of assumed "windows kicking out" was some kind of code akin to the oft quoted "back doors kicking in"

Thats interesting cos although it has worked OK for a week when I first got it back when connecting the monitor the screen had a red hue which I resolved by changing to the video output/input
Maybe I will just go and give the case a thump and see what happens,,,lol

I had similar a while back and the problem in the end was a Windows Update that replaced my graphics card drivers with ones that prevented start-up.

would that explain why it was 'ok' for a week then failed
