hello all,

i am in the process of fitting cycle wings to my car, i have got as far as actually fitting them, but have come to the conclusion that they aren't robust enough to be reliable, i made them out of 3mm ally and cross braced the angles, but they still wobble a bit too much for my liking.

anyway, could you please regale me with what material yours are made of and if they are sturdy enough for high speed running (mine is a track car)

pictures would be great!!!!!

here is my effort so far

Cycle wing brackets need to be pretty solid, pretty much always steel as far as I know. Pic of the ones on my Mojo here:

I think it's 1/2" tube with 5mm flat section welded on the ends.

These are my brackets as supplied by MNR, they are very solid but I still get vibrations up through the wings - some people have added an extra support from the middle of the bracket up to the top/inside of the wing:

Are those bolted on the wrong way round? Short bit at front, long bit at the back is how they should attach.

That's what I thought at first, but is it not a rear engined build

Ah, that would explain it. I'd assumed (incorrectly) some form of seven given the seven style wings.

Sorry,

that was an unclear picture, they are attached to the rear wheels. The lights you can see are the rear LEDs

You need to be very careful designing these brackets, even the manufacturers efforts fail regularly. Alloy is just not a very suitable material in this case, especially weedy 3mm strips.

The MNR ones look similar to the ones on my Spyder Silverstone in so much as they pass through holes and bolt to the underside. The side holes are moulded in, not drilled, and the bolts pass upward into threaded plates moulded into the GRP. No bolts or rivets showing at all.
Sorry for less than sharp pic.
Geoff.

The ones on the dax rush have fairly hefty steel supports, and the wings are just bonded on with wurth adhesive.
