Here's a new one for you...Had all me bits done at Austec..They have just phoned to tell me...my dip stick holder..which should be 3ft long...is only 8 inches long...they need to take the sump of to check to see if there is a 2 ft piece of metal tube hanging about my engine...Good spot a..

When was the last time you checked your oil? How long has it been like that.

That's pretty scary that is...

Not the dip stick itself...that still goes all the way in to the engine... But the holder, should direct the dip stick to the bottom of the sump.. At the moment, with the holder on 8inshes long..as in just into the engine, when you put the tip stick back its just floating about in there...I check my oil every week by btw.

Exactly...without removing the sump..they can't tell..so few hours labour few quid..and there might be nothing wrong...fun a...

So when you check the oil how far in do you stick the dipstick. Or have I missed the point

The dip stick goes all the way in... but instead of it being guided by the holder, its guided by the inside wall of the engine and sump. Therefore somewhere inside there is a bit of metal tube hanging about..apparently..
